Horse Racing Best Bets - October 15, 2008With the "Breeder's Cup World Thoroughbred Championships" only 10 days away, the big news is not only the announced retirement of "Big Brown", but also that following a very sharp workout on Santa Anita's new "Pro Ride" artificial surface, reigning "Horse of the Year" Curlin will probably run in the "Breeder's Cup Classic". Wunderdog Racing will have our Racing Newsletter available for both the Friday and Saturday "Breeder's Cup" cards on Thursday October 23rd. Today, with Belmont dark again, the action will consist of four races, two each from Keeneland and Laurel. Today's Best Bet is: #3 Darci in Race #2 at Laurel. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #5 (CLIQUE) - Chased the pace and finished evenly in her debut at Turfway Park. Trainer (Tom Amoss) is very good 2nd time out (23%), and this filly's recent drills are very fast. Look for big improvement. 2nd pick: #4 (Reckless Betty) - Daughter of "Fusaichi Pegasus" improved 2nd time out in a race on Turfway's poly-surface. Drops into a claimer for the first time and her trainer (Eddie Kenneally) is a fine 17% with that move. 3rd pick: #11 (Skinny Legs N All) - Debut runner by "El Corredor" has been in steady training at Arlington for the past 3 months but did not start there. Trainer (Hugh Robertson) is much better than his overall record in "08" (25 for 212). 4th pick: #6 (Classic Gait) - Three of her last four works are very good and her trainer (Eric Reed) is having his usual good year (57 for 277). LAUREL Race #2 at 1:40 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (DARCI) - Daughter of "Lion Hearted" showed good speed in her debut at Delaware while racing a bit wide. Freshened up since that August 10th race, she's been training sharply at Fair Hill for this attempt. Her race to lose. 2nd pick: #1 (So Foxy) - Good speed shown in her debut while battling for the lead while wide. Very sharp 2nd out barn, (Rodney Jenkins 24%) and daughter of "City Zip" draws the rail. Big threat. 3rd pick: #4 (Bar Lazy J) - Firster by "Gone West" is in a top barn (Graham Motion)and has been in steady training at Fair Hill for the past three months. Could be a runner. 4th pick: #8 (Shaunna) - Barn (John Fisher) is not known for first out success, but this filly's works at Fair Hill are of the quick variety. Don't ignore. Laurel Race #3 at 2:15 PM Eastern Top pick: #6 (ZOE T) - Makes his first start for trainer Donovan Haughton ( a 17% winning move) and he adds blinkers to her equipment for her first race since August 24th. Lightly raced and ready to run a big one. 2nd pick: #2 (Gals Night Out) - Takes a big drop and will go turf to dirt for this contest. Previous dirt race at Penn National saw her finish 4th running for $6250. Win contender. 3rd pick: #10 (Dusty's Little Note) - Drops a bit and will shorten up after a pair of longer races against $9000 competition. Fits at this tag and may get over-looked in the wagering. 4th pick: #9 (Frugal Lark) - Shortens up after tiring against $10,000 foes in her first try against winners. Lightly raced, drops, and draws a good post for the distance. KENELAND Race #4 at 2:40 PM Eastern Top pick: #2 (EQUALLY) - Daughter of "Cherokee Run" has been a bit of a disappointment as she hasn't lived up to the promise shown earlier this year. Makes her first start on an artificial surface and has some finishing power. Could win this at a square price. 2nd pick: #8 (Sealed Bid) - Ran a big race on this surface during the spring meet when she finished 3rd in a race that produced many next out winners. Training well and a win contender. 3rd pick: #9 (Secret Source) - Daughter of "Mineshaft" has raced well in several starts on the dirt and turf. This will be her first on "poly" but the distance (9 furlongs) is made to order. 4th pick: #11 (Nurture) - Well-bred and lightly raced, she'll be trying both a distance and polytrack for the first time. Darley home-bred has a pair of very sharp works on this surface heading into this. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
