Last time that scenario occurred he broke his maiden by 3 1/2 lengths. Cost almost a half-million, so he was intended to be better. This is his first time tagged, and he faces a poor group. (# 2) Dade County - Goes second off a ten-month layoff for trainer George Weaver. Good return for this tag and at this condition at Saratoga. Any move forward makes him tough. (# 6) Sal the Pal - Could sneak away at good odds in here. Competitive efforts in many tries at this level. May factor well in here. (# 8) Tater Tutt - Has some speed, is lightly raced, and comes in fresh off a five-month layoff. Only win was over this course and distance. BELMONT PARK Race #THREE (2:00 PM Eastern) (# 5) JOPPA FLATS - Continues to run too good to lose. Has run second in his last five, several to some talented individuals. Distance is fine, and pair of swift maintenance drills indicate he's feeling good. (# 3) Feast or Famine - Makes his second start as a three-year-old after coming back late in the Saratoga meet. Was away nine months, so the effort was a good one considering that fact. Has worked four times on the Saratoga training track since his return race. (# 2) Giant Deputy - Moves back to the dirt for trainer Stanley Hough after running well in a pair of turf sprints. Appears to be improving, and is obviously fit, as his starts are starting to string together. ( #'s 9 and 10) Putnam County and Holla Bull - Would use this pair in small exact boxes with the top pick. BELMONT PARK Race #EIGHT (4:30 PM Eastern) (# 6) LOVE ABROAD - Strange run in last, as I thought he was all over the racetrack. Winner of that heat is a quality runner, and this gelding should run better today. Has a superb work since the last race here at Belmont on Sept. 29. (# 9) Smokin Warrior - Goes first off a five-month layoff for trainer John Destefano. Made two good efforts against winners after breaking his maiden last Feb. Has speed and is working well. (# 8) Any Which Way - Two strong races against winners after breaking his maiden on July 28 at Saratoga. Has a nice stalking style about 3-5 lengths off the lead and makes a run from there. (# 4) Motor West - Nice second-place finish at this track, distance, and condition off a year+ layoff. A repeat of that effort, or a move forward would make him tough. SANTA ANITA Race #TEN (8:05 PM Eastern) (# 10) GRAND YULE - Big debut effort at Fairplex in a four-furlong sprint. Bet down to 6-5 he broke well, set a fast pace and just failed to last. Two nice works over this surface indicate that he can handle it. Trainer Brian Koriner is at 37% with second time runners. (# 12) Barney - He also debuted at Fairplex but at a distance of six furlongs from a bad post on that "bull ring." Finished fourth after bidding while wide. Resides in the very good Mike Mitchell barn. (# 13) Fallbrook - Goes third off a layoff for trainer Pat Gallagher. Good effort in debut against better, then had a poor start in race number two. Still ran on well in that one. (# 1) Wild Beginnings - He's almost six now without a win. Has the rail and is in shape. He may hang around on the rail and sneak into the super and/or tri.
