Trifecta (7-1-2) Paid $509.80. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: (# 1) ALL EXPENSES PAID - Drops into a claimer again, and makes his second start for trainer Gary Contessa. Ran second at Calder, just missing in only other start for a tag. Draws the rail and has speed. (# 7) Lava Cat - Claimed from Mike Trombetta three back by Enrique Arroyo. Goes third off the claim and showed marked improvement in second start for the new connections. Has very sharp works on Sept. 29 and Oct. 7. (# 3) Bomber D Back - Well bet in initial outing against straight maidens. Drops into a claimer today and also gets blinkers added. Looking for an improved run. (# 4) Cross the Atlantic - Was well backed in several outings, and he has been on the shelf for two months for trainer Allen Jerkens. Working well for the return race. BELMONT PARK Race #FOUR (2:30 PM Eastern) (# 10) DESAFINADO - Needs a scratch to compete, but, if allowed she should run well in this largely inexperienced field. Blinkers go on for trainer Todd Pletcher today(a 23% move by the barn). (# 4) Ofcr. Sheila T. Rex - Showed speed in last - a sprint on the turf. Stretches out to a mile today and trainer Linda Rice has done little wrong with her grass runners. (# 2) Saratoga Chance - Good efforts in both races, one each on dirt and turf. Continues to work well for trainer Tim Hills and will factor with these. (#'s 7 and 8) Fairy Godmother and Tom and Dicks Gi - Would use this pair in exacta boxes with the top selection. BELMONT PARK Race #FIVE (3:00 PM Eastern) (# 7) ALWAYS ALBERT - Nice run in last, his second start of the year. Sharp third-place finish at seven furlongs which saw next out winner "I'm a Numbers Guy" finish second. Stretches out to a 1 1/16th miles today, and looks well set up for the win by trainer Zito. (# 1) Bayou Timber - Sharp runner who's in shape. Likes this surface(2-1-1-0) and faces many in questionable condition. (# 6) Delta Sea - Strong finisher is at the mercy of the pace gods. Would like it fast/contested. (# 4) Pay Attention - Poor effort in latest, but he stumbled badly at the start. Has speed and should be involved in the pace battle. SANTA ANITA Race #SIX (6:30 PM Eastern) (# 1) SET FOR COMBAT - Comes back off a two-month freshening for trainer Bruce Headley. Ran second in his last pair at Del Mar for this price. Has some speed but can also stalk. He's working well here for this return engagement. (# 5) Scottish Diamond - Claimed in last at Del Mar by Richard Dutrow, and he's always been deadly off the buy. Presently he's at 25% first time out with his new acquisitions. (# 3) Kinsaler - Drops into a claimer off a pair of efforts against straight maidens. Broke slowly in both, but he's training well and the easier competition should help. (# 4) The Emerald King - Five-year-old was claimed two years ago by his present trainer, and has only made one start since then. Return race at Del Mar wasn't bad. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
