Horse Racing Handicapping - October 06, 2008With the major centers closed today we'll head to Delaware and Philadelphia Park for two races apiece. Today's Best Bet is # 2 My Happy Pal in Race # 1 at Philadelphia Park. Sunday's Results: Belmont Park Race #1 Top Pick #3 (Hangingbyathread) $6.30.  Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #2 (MY HAPPY PAL) - Filly ran a big race last out in her first try with blinkers on. Stretches-out today off that effort and I'm looking for her to go wire-to-wire from ner cozy post. 2nd pick: #8 (Sweet Gianna) - Well beaten by the top pick last out but she finished a solid third in her previous attempt. Think she'll run mich better today. 3rd pick: #9 (Drop the Mail) - Post will hurt her overall chances as she has no speed to call upon and will have to rally from pretty far back. Not impossible in this "weak" gathering DELAWARE PARK Race #2 at 1:10 PM Eastern Top pick: #2 (ROCK'N WITH MARY) - Probable heavy favorite especially with Dominguez aboard for the first time. Strong late kick in a race with many faint-hearted individuals. She's finished second in her last pair at this tag and distance. 2nd pick: #8 (Nos Miran) - Interesting runner actually won her debut on the Colonial turf but was subsequently disqualified. Filly hasn't raced since August 10, but is training very sharply at her home base of Bowie. 3rd pick: #5 (Oh What Fun) - Hasn't shown much, but she has some speed and will be strteching-out for the first time. Probable early leader will need to summon some extra energy around the far turn. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #3 at 1:10 PM Eastern Top pick: #8 (VALLEY GIRL) - Filly finished second in a pair of state-bred races on the Presque Isle poly in the past two months. Found MSW foes a little more than she could handle last out and this maiden-claimer is a nice spot for a big shot at her initial win. 2nd pick: #6 (Billy CallingHoney) - Speedy sort tired last out in a race with a runaway winner. Race was her first in almost two months and she should be much fitter for this attempt. 3rd pick: #1 (Trice) - Has enough speed to stay close, and filly has run well enough recently to "hit the board" in four straight. Chance from close range. DELAWARE PARK Race #5 at 2:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #5 (PIETY) - Drops down and gets the services of Dominguez for trainer Bruce Levine. Has a big class edge and a flexible running style. Veteran had a smashing win last year on this course against tougher, with Dominguez up. 2nd pick: #6 (Kong the King) - Capable of a big race when in the mood and he did just that in his latest, defeating a very good field at this tag. Enough speed to be placed just about anywhere, and he is a win contender. 3rd pick: #4 (Momentarily) - Last was better than it looked as he stayed close in his turf debut, bid and "hung" a bit late.
