Free Horse Racing Picks - October 05, 2008Some of the many stakes results from yesterday's racing: Belmont: The Jamaica Hdcp. (G2) - "Court Vision" The Frizette Stakes (G1)- "Sky Diva" The Champagne (G1) - "Vineyard Haven" Keeneland: The Lanes End Breeder's Futurity (G1) "Square Eddie" The Shadwell Mile (G1) "Thorn Song" Today we'll stay right at Belmont Park for a total of four races. Today's Best Bet is #3 Lieutenant Ron in Race #4 at Belmont Park. Saturday's Results: Belmont Park Race #2 Best Bet #7 (Imperial Council) $3.00.  Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #3 (HANGINGBYATHREAD) - Appears to be nearing his best as he's racing himself into shape after being away eight months. Closer should receive a fast/contested pace, and that will benefit him the most. 2nd pick: #4 (Don't Fooli Hooli) - Lightly raced and improving. Cleared the 1x allowance level last out with a very impresive performance. Has speed, but can also stalk, and this mile distance is well within his reach. 3rd pick: #2b (Imperial River) - Part of a Tom Bush-trained entry. Gelding has ben freshened up since an even try at Saratoga on August 17. Lightly raced and two for five on the grass, he draws a good post for his style. 4th pick: #1 (Unflagging) - Can't knock his two for two record with one win coming from slightly off the pace and other a wire-to-wire effort. Hasn't beaten much in his first pair and he'll have a tough trip from the rail. Contender, but no lock. 5th pick: #6 (Solid Strike) - Pace factor would need a clear lead and that's a bit unlikely here. Stays in the hunt for most of this at a big price. BELMONT PARK Race #2 at 1:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #6 (MR. PETERSON) - Look for this gelding to offer whatever he has in this his third start back off a layoff. Stalking style, a good post, and the seven-furlong distance are all positives. 2nd pick: #1 (Gargantua) - Makes his third start, goes turf to dirt, and will drop into a claimer for the first time. Win contender. 3rd pick: #8 (Well Meant) - Tired in the slop last out after a respectable debut at Saratoga where he finished evenly in a very good field. Nice works on view and he drops into a claimer here. 4th pick: #3 (Early Response) - Obvious contender, but beatable at a short price. Has speed, but he'll be going up in class after finishing second in a pair of $50K claimers. BELMONT PARK Race #4 at 2:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (LIEUTENANT RON) - Poor start did this talented runner in last out in his first race since early April. Highly thought of and he has a very fast work since that comebacker that saw him rally late for the show. He'll beat these with a clean break. 2nd pick: #6 (Joacquin Memphis) - Finished second last out going a mile in his return from a two month rest. That was in a straight $35K claimer and these are tougher. Solid exacta runner. 3rd pick: #7 (Kaper Lake) - Freshened up by an under-rated trainer (Dan Peitz) and he is working in excellent fashion for this. Draws a great post for the distance and he is two for six on this course. 4th pick: #1 (Leo) - Claimed out of a recent win by Dave Jacobson. Trainer is best known for laying them up and dropping them off the buy, but this runner returns quickly and is raised in value. Has some speed and can also stalk. BELMONT PARK Race #10 at 5:40 PM Eastern Top pick: #7 (Sweet Bama Breeze) - Scratched the other day to await this spot. Continues her upward spiral and comes off a snappy maiden score going six furlongs on this course. Tries a mile for the first time, but she's very sharp right now. 2nd pick: #11 (Can She Dance) - Draws outside of the other contenders and has the best closing kick of those entered. Win contender. 3rd pick: #9 (Walkabout Winner) - Impressive maiden score at Saratoga in second lifetime race and first since last November. Obviously talented and she'll make her presence felt in her first try against winners. 4th pick: #4 (Who Is Lady) - The main speed has run well on this surface and at this distance.
