Preakness Picks - November 30, 2009Racing ended on Aqueduct's main-track yesterday and will move to the inner dirt surface on Wednesday. The end of the grass season won't be far behind. The Meadowlands ends the New Jersey Thoroughbred season this Saturday. Racing won't return to the Garden State until April or May. Today's racing newsletter has two races apiece from Philadelphia Park and the Meadowlands. Today's Best Bet is #8 Driven by Saarland in Race #8 at the Meadowlands. Sunday's Results: Aqueduct Race #2 Top Pick #1 (Buddy's Song) $8.80. Aqueduct Race #6 Top Pick #7 (Tia) $13.80. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #3 (PRESS THE LIMIT) - He takes a big plunge in price today going from $25,000 down to $7.5K. Nice maiden win three back and he faced far tougher in his first pair vs. winners. Stalker should get a fast/contested pace in front of him and he can win this at a square price in a competitive race. 2nd pick: #1 (Minnie's Boy) - He arrived here from California in late August and he's proven a useful runner since arriving. Speed/stalker has the rail and drops into a claimer after facing tougher in his latest. Has a shot at the top spot. 3rd pick: #10 (Ubetimfast) - Another who came here recently from California. Gelding has good speed and lost all chance in his east coast debut when he "stumbled" badly at the start. Contends this afternoon. 4th pick: #11 (Dodgy) - Speedy, lightly raced, well-bred, and he halves in value for this. May have the best early gear and could prove tough if he clears. MEADOWLANDS Race #4 at 2:20 PM Eastern Top pick: #8 (ENDURO) - He just missed in his latest which came running for $7500. Speedster can also rate if necessary and this outside draw is a plus with the other pace to his left in the gate. He's been searching for a spot and lightly-raced colt is the choice. 2nd pick: #5 (Artistic Lion) - Probable heavy favorite drops from a state-bred allowance (which he won through a disqualification) to a $7500 claimer. Obvious player if he runs. 3rd pick: #2 (Bakers Eye Candy) - Very speedy individual should secure the rail and run as hard as he can the whole race. Sharp at this time he faces other speed but has displayed the ability to stick it out no matter how much pressure he faces. 4th pick: #10 (Superlook) - All his races at this $5000 price-tag are solid. One-run type draws a difficult outside post, but if he can stay in contact early he has a good shot down the stretch. MEADOWLANDS Race #8 at 3:55 PM Eastern Top pick: #8 (DRIVEN BY SAARLAND) - Very sharp at present and he comes off a maiden win with a "figure" that if repeatable wins this. Trainer Bruce Levine has him very conservatively spotted for his first vs. winners and believe this gelding is too tough for these. 2nd pick: #2 (Real Dude) - Has some fine early speed and he draws the rail post. He finished a solid third last out at this level after being involved in a quick pace from the start. Can contend from the inside. 3rd pick: #7 (Masharka) - He has eight minor awards to go along with his one win and he finished second here last out at this level going five furlongs. Stalker can get a piece of this with a patient ride. 4th pick: #3 (Powerful Storm) - Latest is a "toss" as he lost all chance at the start when he was "bounced around". He's finished close-up in his other two effort at this price and brings a nice finishing kick to a race with a lot of speed types. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #10 at 4:15 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (SHE LOVES ME NOW) - Veteran mare tired here at this condition November 16 in her first race back off a long break. She was involved in the pace that day and only gave way in the last 1/16th. Nice to see her come-back quickly for this (14 days) and she's beaten better in the past. She gets the nod in another good-betting race. 2nd pick: #1 (Hopi's Song) - Speed/stalker draws the rail and is nicely spotted by a winning barn (Todd Beattie) that's based at Penn National. Rider Tom Clifton makes the trip with her and filly is (2-3-0) in her last five starts. Has a win here in the past and she'll be a handful today. 3rd pick: #4 (Tomorrow's Gal) - Very lightly-raced filly is (1-2-0) in her last three starts since dropping into the claiming ranks. She finished second here in the mud on November 13 so you know she can hadle an "off" track if that's the case. Contender. 4th pick: #6 (Summer Pleasure) - Makes her first start for Ed Auwarter (a 24% winning angle). Daughter of "Officer" was a pretty good runner at one point and has lots of back class. Races today off a 8 1/2 month layoff and will need to be sharp. 5th pick: #5 (Depend On Bonnie) - She's raced evenly in her last pair at this tag and last out came in only a length behind "Tomorrow's Gal". Needs to step it up for more than a small slice.
