Free Horse Racing Systems - November 30, 2008It was a day of triumph and tragedy yesterday at Aqueduct. "Tale of Ekati" was awarded the victory in the "Cigar Mile (G1)" on a bit of a questionable decision over the first-place finisher, "Harlem Rocker" in a call that can be argued both ways. The race was marred by the breakdown and subsequent euthanization of old war-horse "Wanderin Boy". Tough game and always a sobering moment when these kind of things happen. Hard-hitter was probably nearing the end of his career which makes it all the more tragic. To show you how unforgiving the game can be, "Springside" was a handy winner of the "Demoiselle" (G2) earlier on the card and suffered a career-ending and possible life threatening injury pulling up after the race was over. Also on the card "Old Fashioned" stamped himself as an early candidate for possible Derby success with an authoritative victory in the "Remsen"(G2). Colt is trained by Larry Jones who has finished second in the last two runnings of the Run for the Roses. Today we have two from Hollywood Park, one from the Fair Grounds, and a pair from the "Big A." Today's Best Bet is #2 Justdontcallmejeri in Race #1 at Holywood Park. Saturday's Results: Hollywood Park Race #1 Best Bet #5 (Concerto's Thunder) $6.40. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #6 (MIAS FIRST) - Good efforts in all three of her appearances for this bargain-priced ($7000) yearling. Pressed the pace last out against a good group and she held well to finish a close-up fourth. Third finisher in that contest (Sheikh's Serenade) won easily here last Sunday. Win pick in a good betting race. 2nd pick: #1 (Giant Mover) - Debut filly by "Giant's Causeway" has several good drills, including a big gate work on the Belmont training-track on October 25. Barn (Jimmy Jerkens) can have one ready at first asking. 3rd pick: #3 (Pleasant Ballerina) - Fine debut speed shown on a sloppy track at Monmouth in late September. Filly chased the pace and held well to finish second. Freshened-up since, and her most recent drill is solid. 4th pick: #10 (Rocker Mom) - Debut runner by "Holy Bull" is from the winning combination of Paul Pompa/Pat Reynolds, the same people who first brought "Big Brown" to the races last season. Trainer has had a good meet(16-4-4-0) from his small operation. HOLLYWOOD PARK Race #1 at 3:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #2 (JUSTDONTCALLMEJERI) - Much improved race last out in his second trip to the gate. Tracked a solid pace from a wide draw at this tag and distance and held well after bidding to finish a close-up third. Nice pair of maintenance works since for a very solid barn (Mike Mitchell). Draws the rail and should beat these. 2nd pick: #5 (J B Wine) - Raced evenly last out in the same contest as the top pick. Beaten 3 1/2 lengths by that rival, but this colt could move forward a bit in his second try at a distance. 3rd pick: #9 (No Place Like Home) - Wide in the same race as the choice and wasn't beaten all that much (four lengths). Blinkers will go on today in an attempt to get some more early speed out of him. 4th pick: #4 (Island Run) - No speed runner will be trying a route for the first time. He's offered some late run in all his sprint efforts and trainer (Martin Jones) has good stats on the stretch-out (17%). AQUEDUCT Race #8 (THE MONTAUK H.) at 3:40 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (POINT ME TO IT) - Draws the rail and enters this off a career best effort in her second start for trainer Gary Contessa. Just missed last out to the heavily favored "Under serviced" in a state-bred "Stallion Stakes" on this surface November 9. Has some speed and has raced well going long in the past. 2nd pick: #5 (My Dinah) - Stalker should receive a comfortable trip in a race without a lot of early pace signed up. Can see her being only 2-3 lengths from the top as they hit the far turn with a solid chance at the win. 3rd pick: #6 (Borrowing Base) - No-speed runner has had a good season on both the grass and dirt and owns a victory at this demanding nine-furlong distance at Saratoga. Late threat in this field. 4th pick: #2 (Morning Gallop) - Could make an impact, especially if the speed doesn't hold as expected. Veteran mare can run all day without blowing out a match. Late threat to impact the exotics. FAIR GROUNDS Race #6 at 3:50 PM Eastern Top pick: #2 (MY INCA PRINCESS) - Pressed the pace while four-wide in a race common to many entered here last out. Tired in the last furlong that day and she should be much "tighter" today as that effort was her first in four months. Wins this with a move forward. 2nd pick: #8 (Miss Acapulco) - Probable favorite finished a close-up fourth on opening day and that marked her rthird straight strong effort in a row. Tough to beat, but think that "Inca" can pull off a mild upset. 3rd pick: #6 (G Licious) - Drops into a claimer after setting a fast pace on a surface (sloppy) that she may not have liked. She's the speed of the speed and could be tough if she clears off without any pressure. HOLLYWOOD PARK Race #3 at 4:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #7 (MAMA LUNA) - Veteran mare comes into this in great condition and on a year long streak (13-3-4-2). Just missed last out on this surface against slightly better going 6.5-furlongs. Very tough to beat with a nice stalking trip. 2nd pick: #6 (Asian Eyes) - She's picked up her game as she's come down in claiming price. In good form and with a sharp trainer (Pete Miller). He adds blinkers today in an attempt to put her over the top. 3rd pick: #8 (Lucky Stab) - Takes a major drop in price and will be going turf to dirt for the Jerry Hollendorfer barn. Fits, but her lone try on synthetic wasn't very good, though it came against better. Tough call. 4th pick: #2 (Veils de Fleur) - No speed runner drops slightly and could pass enough late to hit the exotics. Capable, but she would need a fast/contested pace with the speed quitting to get more than a minor award. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
