Us Horse Racing Picks - November 27, 2007

Today the major racing centers are dormant and Calder is closed, so we'll switch our plays to a pair each from Philadelphia Park and Turf Paradise.

Playing our trifecta selections (8-4-1) at Calder race No. 10 yesterday would have hit for $238.80. Adding our No. 5 horse to that trifecta would have brought in a $676.40 superfecta (8-4-1-5) win!

A reminder that on Wednesday racing at Aqueduct switches over to the inner-dirt surface for the winter run. Racing will not return to the main surface until mid or late March.

Today's Best Bet is #3 Fast Missle in Race #3 at Turf Paradise.

Monday's Results: Calder Race #2 Exacta 2nd Pick with top Pick (2-7) Paid $23. Calder Race #8 Top Pick winner #3 (Foret) Paid $5.60.  Calder Race #10 Trifecta (8-4-1) Paid $238.80.

Superfecta (8-4-1-5) Paid $676.40.

Today's Horse Racing Picks:

PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #FOUR (1:45 PM Eastern)

(# 6) VISION OF ROSES - Drops into a claimer for the first time. Sarah and Ken Ramsey home bred makes his first start on conventional dirt after trying turf and Polytrack. Has had a two-month freshening and should come back a better animal.
(# 1) Ballado Alert - Heavily bet in bow, he broke poorly and was forced to play catch up. Got involved late to finish fourth. Should go better today in start number two.
(# 8) Doctor Seth - Pair of tough journeys have cost him any shot at showing his best. Move outside and increase to seven furlongs should aid his cause.
(# 3) His Special Guy - Drops into a claimer for the first time, and that can only help make him more competitive. Last, his third start, showed some slight improvement. Not a win candidate, so use on bottom of exotics.
(# 9) Super Doc - Has several fair tries and could possibly sneak into the super and/or tri at a decent price. Best used in the underneath positions.

PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #SIX (2:40 PM Eastern)
(# 7) LOCAL CELEBRITY - Wire-to-wire threat in his return from a eight-month hiatus. Sharp drills for son of "Tactical Cat," and think he will run very well. Trainer (Gorham) has had a great year.
(# 2) Fortheloveofconnor - Well-backed in all starts to date. Has speed, but may face outside pressure and could be overbet.
(# 8) Sam's Marque - Freshened up since mid-September by Jim Ryerson. Nice works at Monmouth for the return. Post is another plus.
(# 9) Jerenimos Storm - Has finished second in half of his twelve starts. Draws well and should get a good stalking trip.

TURF PARADISE Race #THREE (3:20 PM Eastern)
(# 3) FAST MISSLE - Very sharp at present, he comes off a sprint victory here on Nov. 9. Stretches out and moves up in class today. Has run well at this two-turn distance before, and his present form is too good to ignore.
(# 2) Devil Cop - Speedy sort should be able to get the lead if he wants it. One of his best races this season was a stretch-out second on May 30 at Yavapi Downs.
(# 4) Lion Trouble - More accomplished on grass, he also has not run since the end of March. Has several sharp works for the return.
(# 5) Larry King - Coming off another gap in his races today. This level appears fine and trainer is having a great meet.

TURF PARADISE Race #FOUR (3:45 PM Eastern)
(# 3) DARK INTRIGUE - Drops and shortens up for this. Blinkers are removed and runner is one of two win candidates in this race. Needs to break running.
(# 1) Honour Roll - Last was encouraging and it was his best ever. Goes third off a layoff for a top barn and drops for this. Very dangerous and the other "win" candidate.
(# 4) Funny Justice - Improved runs in last pair, and that coincided with the drop to this tag. Has some speed and expect he'll show it.
(# 7) Native Reason - Makes his second-lifetime start and first at this track after starting his career against better at Emerald Downs. Good barn, he may get into the exotics bottom.
