Best Horse Racing Systems - November 24, 2008The Fair Grounds will not begin running on Mondays until December, so we'll fill our cup with three races from Philadelphia Park and a pair from Turf Paradise today. Today's Best Bet is: #8 Preppy Princess in Race #4 at Philadelphia Park. Sunday's Results: Aqueduct Race #6 Best Bet #9 (Sheik's Serenade) $5.30. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #8 (PREPPY PRINCESS) - Filly just missed at this tag going six furlongs in the slop here on November 8. Race was her best effort to date and it came in her first attempt at this $12,500 price tag. Takes this if she has a clean trip. 2nd pick: #4 (Willow Twist) - Takes a big drop in price today and she'll also be shortening up in distance. Competitive agsinst tougher going long, she should find this reduced tag and seven-furlong distance to her liking. Win contender. 3rd pick: #5 (Carried a Torch) - Set the pace and tired to finish a distant third last out at this tag and distance. She's lightly raced and has more room for upside. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #7 at 2:55 PM Eastern Top pick: #4 (POLITICAL CHIEF) - Ran a strong race last out at Delaware Park in his first effort in six months. Son of "Indian Charlie" was making his first start since undergoing a trainer change to the fine barn of Mike Trombetta. Colt has a sharp work since that comebacker and is the choice for the win. 2nd pick: #9 (Storm Proof) - Beautifully-bred colt ("Storm Cat") will be cutting back in distance after chasing the pace going long at the Meadowlands last out. Blinkers are added today by trainer Alan Goldberg and colt has a pair of sharp works since his last race. 3rd pick: #5 (Logan on the Hill) - Chased the pace in the mud at the Meadowlands in his debut on November 7. Son of "Yonaguska" could impact this at a very big price. 4th pick: #3 (Fissato) - Excellent debut run at the Meadowlands. Set/pressed the pace from the get-go and continued to battle all the way to the wire, winding up a very close third. Barn (Alan Seewald) is solid second time out (19%). 5th pick: #6 (Revered Pegasus) - Colt had a wide trip from a bad post (11) in his debut here on November 2. Has a nice drill since, and a good trainer (Bob Reid) adds lasix for runner's second outing. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #8 at 3:20 PM Eastern Top pick: #8 (PORT ROYAL) - Makes his second start for trainer Steve Klesaris after spending his entire career in the barn of Hall of Famer Allen Jerkens. Stalker has faced better his whole career and could get a fast/contested pace here to rally into. 2nd pick: #11 (Cassoulet) - Makes his third start back after being away almost a year. Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin has run him in a pair of longer races off the the layoff and he's shown good speed in both. Son of "Distorted Humor" has a pair of extremely fast works at Belmont in the past two weeks. Price play. 3rd pick: #12 (Mt. Glittermore) - Son of "Orientate" has raced well in all but one of his nine starts, and that was the only time he competed in something other than a sprint. His best races fit with this group and he draws a nice post for his style. 4th pick: #9 (Serious Fever) - His sprint record is a fine (11-2-3-5). Returns from a 2 1/2 month break, but that's been his history since he came to the races in late 2006. Fires fresh and has been working steadily for the past month. TURF PARADISE Race #6 at 4:50 PM Eastern Top pick: #6 (BEAUGRAPHER) - Daughter of "Beau Genius" broke her maiden last out on this course in her first start in almost three months. She had previously run well at Emerald Downs against tougher, and filly is in a good barn (Joe Toye). Can track a fast pace and win this down the lane. 2nd pick: #8 (Getawali) - Makes her first start on this course after competing in California on both of their circuits. Good speed shown in her last three and filly broke her maiden on conventional dirt in mid-August. In a very good barn (Keith Bennett) and she's a win candidate. 3rd pick: #2 (Splendid Breeze) - Speedy mare is almost 6yrs.old and will only be making her third lifetime start. She's (2-1-1-0) in those tries and will get the addition of lasix today. With a fine trainer (Dennis Sowers) and she'll be running hard from the opening bell. 4th pick: #4 (Sun Streaked) - Chased the pace last out in her first race in eight months. Filly held well to finish a distant third. If she moves forward in her second start back, she could impact this at a price. TURF PARADISE Race #7 at 5:20 PM Eastern Top pick: #4 (SHE'LLGETRDONE) - Filly could wind up alone on the front-end today with little other speed signed on. Fast early in all her races, she'll need to find that little extra in mid-stretch. 2nd pick: #2 (Dynamic Slew) - Logical selection in this field. She's finished on the board in her last three races at this condition on this course, defeating the majority entered here while doing so. Stalker is a win candidate. 3rd pick: #3 (Categorize) - So. California shipper curiously has never raced on conventional dirt, only turf and poly. Takes a big plunge in price in her first race since June. May be overbet on reputation alone. 4th pick: #7 (Alycaly) - Not a win candidate, but she could pass enough late to get into the tri and/or super at a square price. ![]() Horse Racing Picks Resources:
