Free Horse Racing Systems - November 21, 2008It was announced earlier this week that reigning Horse of the Year Curlin will be retired and not race in 2009. The move was not unexpected, but his connections said that if the "right offer" came their way, that he could run again before the close of the year. It seems rather odd to me, but maybe with a smashing win somwhere, it would help erase the memory of his defeat in the Breeder's Cup Classic and possibly give him year end honors over the filly "Zenyatta". A reminder that Hollywood is again conducting a "night" card today with a post time of 7:05 pacific and 10:05 (EST). We have five races today, two each from Aqueduct and Hollywood, and a single contest from the Fair Grounds. Today's Best Bet is #7 Shareholder Blues in Race #8 at Aqueduct. Thursday's Results: Aqueduct Race #6 Ex. Box of the three picks (2-3) $83.80. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #1 (SHAKE THE MOON) - Nice betting affair on view. Recent arrival from France came over at the same time with "Astrologie" and they raced as an entry in the recent "Long Island" hdcp. Race was on a "soft" course and this filly only offered a mild late rally. Daughter of the fine sire, "Loup Solitaire" was with one of the best trainers in France, Andre Fabre. Runner is now with Chris Clement, and he adds lasix today, a 23% move by the turf specialist. Filly draws the rail and this is a much "softer" spot. Only concern is the shortness of the race. 2nd pick: #8 (Impressionism) - Hard-hitter is a turf specialist (12-2-5-2) who has elevated her game this year at age four. Has enough tactical speed to not allow this post to hurt her chances. Big shot at the win. 3rd pick: #6 (According to Plan) - Lightly raced and talented. Appears to have found a home on the grass (3-1-2-0) and she'll try stretching her ability around two-turns for the first time. 4th pick: #2 (Flibberjibit) - Goes for her sixth in a row today and has done it on both turf and dirt. Filly also has a recent win on this course, something no one else entered can say. Race could set up well for her stalking tactics. AQUEDUCT Race #8 at 3:40 PM Eastern Top pick: #7 (SHAREHOLDER BLUES) - Gray colt didn't care for the slop last out and race is best viewed as a toss. Previous runs put him in this and he'll drop to a career soft spot today. "Giant Killer" Jerkens adds lasix, a 19% winning move by the Hall of Famer. Takes this from just off the pace. 2nd pick: #2 (Notecard) - Speedy colt ships in for a very dangerous trainer (Mike Trombetta). Improved race noted last out at Laurel in his first race on conventional dirt, and also his first with blinkers on. Win contender. 3rd pick: #6 (Cherokee Bull) - Improved run is noted last out and it came on this surface. Barn (Frank Alexander) is having a good meet (three for 10) and colt has met tougher fields than this. 4th pick: #4 (Lifeguard) - LaPenta runner had a "troubled" trip in his debut at Suffolk but still was involved in the pace while racing wide. Drops, is working well, and trainer Zito's runners do much better second time out (19%). FAIR GROUNDS Race #9 at 5:20 PM Eastern Top pick: #9 (TORONTO BOUND) - Comes here from Canada and he's in a very sharp barn (Mark Casse). Ran well in two starts "north of the border" facing tougher than these. Working well and this "Louisiana-bred" has in all likelyhood been aimed for this start against fellow state-breds. 2nd pick: #4 (Round Numbers) - Rcaed once two months ago on the Arlington "poly" and showed good speed. In a barn (Steve Asmussen) who does well second time out and who generally has a "great" meet here. 3rd pick: #1 (Where's Cain) - Firster by "Gold Tribute" is working well for a capable trainer (Wesley Hawley). Had a fast "gate" breeze on November 8, and Lonnie Meche is enlisted for the debut run. 4th pick: #10 (Black Cross) - Finished a fine third in his debut run at Louisiana Downs. Wasn't bet that day, but the race was solid and any move forward off of it puts him in the thick of things. HOLLYWOOD PARK Race #3 at 11:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #8 (GIOVANNI) - Makes her second start back off a 6 week freshening from trainer Doug O'Neill. New Zealand import showed good speed against better that day and held well to finish a close-up 5th. Drops in half for this and is well-spotted by her connections. 2nd pick: #1 (Flip the Penny) - Scored on October at this tag going six furlongs in her first race since March. Very competitive filly (16-5-4-4) has both speed and stalking ability and draws the rail, which has been good at this meet. 3rd pick: #7 (Armstrong Won) - Finished about three lengths behind the top choice last out. Battled all the way for the lead and did so while racing between runners. Encouraging effort and she may sneak away at a square price. 4th pick: #4 (Yes He's a Pistol) - Late runner has been competitive in her races since dropping down to $10K and under. Just missed with a furious late charge last out to "Penny". The shorter distance of this contest does not work in her favor, but she's a late threat especially if the front is contested. HOLLYWOOD PARK Race #4 at 11:25 PM Eastern Top pick: #6 (SOLO PERFORMANCE) - Finished a strong third last out against better, and race was on this surface. Drops down off of it and goes an extra 1/2 furlong tonight. Working fast since his latest and he's the horse to beat. 2nd pick: #7 (Troubltimesthree) - He's run well in his first pair and they both came at this tag at Santa Anita. Good positional speed last out and he rallied strongly for the place. Major danger. 3rd pick: #10 (Valentine Vow) - Returns from a 2 1/2 month layoff for trainer Ron McNally. Lack of speed has been evident in his starts, but he's been working in fine fashion for the past 40 days and should be dead-fit off those drills. 4th pick: #3 (To the Penny) - Drops in half and has been working every few days for the past month. He was beaten by about four lengths by the top pick last August at Del Mar. Figures to show whatever he has today. 5th pick: #5 (El Senor Halo) - Last was solid and it came at this tag. He's going on six-years-old now and certainly can't do much better. Threat for the exotics. ![]() Horse Racing Picks Resources:
