Sports - November 20, 2007With Calder and the major centers closed today, we'll turn our attention to Philadelphia and Turf Paradise for four races. Monday's Results: Calder Race #1 Top Pick Winner #2 Exacta Top with 2nd (2-7) Paid $9.80. Trifecta ( 2-7-5) Paid $27.40. Calder Race #7 Top Pick Winner #5 Exacta Top with 2nd (5-3) Paid $9.40. Trifecta (5-3-7) Paid $25.80.
Races 2 and 5 were off the turf at Calder, so all bets were cancelled. Today's Horse Racing Picks: ( # 1) ST. SIMON'S LOVE - Very good betting race with many opportunities. This runner broke much farther behind his field in last when he was moving to his left in the gate when it opened. Made a nice run to challenge around the far turn while wide, then flattened out from his "catching up" tactics. Has a shot at probable square odds. (# 3) Iceberg Eddie - Goes third off a seven-week layoff. Threw some good efforts together at Monmouth against better this past summer. If he runs to his capabilities he could surprise them. (# 5) Lion Song - If ready off the six-month layoff, he's a legitimate threat to go wire-to-wire. Pair of sharp works indicate that he's racing fit. Would box the top three in exactas and put over the bottom two with a good shot at a decent price. (# 9) Twin Dees - Last was a nice second-place finish at this distance and price tag. Competed against tougher earlier this season and ran fairly well. Drop to this tag has put him in the ballgame. (# 11) Honorship - Big middle move in last to take over and finally break his maiden. Consistent sort has enough speed to get some early position before rallying late. TURF PARADISE Race #TWO (2:55 PM Eastern) (# 4) MR. HARBOR - Makes his first start at Turf Paradise after coming here from Northern California. Ran well there and also on the CA. fair circuit. Is in a potent barn here (Clay Brinson), and he wins with 26% of his new arrivals. (# 3) High Bird - Big race in last, his second off a layoff. Race was also his best effort in two years. Comes back quickly (10 days) and if effort is repeatable, he will be tough. (# 8) Storm Blitz - Latest at this track, condition and tag was very good. Has some positional speed and can track these and make a move around the turn. (# 2) Wake Island - Drops to his lowest price tag ever. Has run evenly since coming back to the races in August, so the class reduction seems like a logical one. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #NINE (4:00 PM Eastern) (# 7) MISTER WHITE SOCKS - Private purchase makes his first start for new connections after arriving from New York where he was in the Kiaran McLaughlin barn. Broke his maiden on the dirt at Aqueduct last year, but has been running on the turf most of the season. Good shot in the dirt return. (# 8) Prideland - Appears to be racing himself back into shape for the Scott Lake barn after being claimed off a two-month rest. Last was his best since switching barns and draws a nice post for his stalking tactics. (# 2) Italiano - Nice pair of runs since coming from Woodbine and switching trainers to Tim Hooper. Has a good record at the distance (4-2-1-0) and is making his third start off a layoff. (# 1a) The Real McRoy - Should be involved from this post from the bell. In good shape at present, he has won his last pair from on the pace. Seven-furlong distance is a big question. TURF PARADISE Race #SIX (4:35 PM Eastern) (# 6) EVERYBODYLOVESME - Comes here by way of Remington Park where he was in the top Chris Hartman barn (352-94-65-50). Ran mid-pack in both, holding his position without retreating. Comes here to the more than capable Mike Chambers (41 for 141 on the year). New horses to his barn win at 23%. (# 3) Spring Lovin - Appears to have the best speed of those that have started. Drops to the bottom for this and should establish the rail after the break. (# 7) Izzy Belle - Poor start and traffic problems make his last race a toss. Prior run was great, his first outing over this surface. Has the best late kick of those that have raced. (# 5) Jones Special - Debut runner has several sharp works on view. Trainer (Talbot) is having a good meet with limited opportunities (9-2-3-0). Horse Racing Picks Resources:
