Us Horse Racing Picks - November 19, 2007The major centers are closed today so we will turn our attention to Calder for five races. A reminder that the Fair Grounds opens on Thanksgiving and Turfway Park this Sunday. Turfway runs three night cards a week and day cards on Saturday and Sunday. Selections and analysis for Races No. 2 and No. 5 at Calder are for TURF ONLY! Today's Best Bet is #2 Perfectly Natural in Race #2 at Calder. Sunday's Results: Aqueduct Race #2 Top Pick Winner #6 (Fashion Queen) Paid $4.40. Aqueduct Race #4 Top Pick Winner #2 (Carolyn's Cat) Paid $4.50.
Hollywood Park Race #10 Best Bet Winner #9 (Stage Sensation) Paid $3.80. Today's Horse Racing Picks: (# 2) CONCORDE'S SKIPPER - Logical and probable heavy favorite, you should try and hook him up in the trifecta with our other runners. Use in the first and second position, more on top then in the second slot. (# 7) Bukahu - Troubled trips in last pair, the most recent with the addition of blinkers. Should get a good stalking journey and offer a strong rally late. (# 1) Eclectic Tiger - Barn is more than capable with a first-timer (21%). Works are fine, and would assume he'll be up near the top if he has racing ability. (# 5) Winning Money - Makes his third lifetime start and improved some in his second effort. Distance increase should aid his cause. CALDER Race #TWO (12:50 PM Eastern) (# 2) PERFECTLY NATURAL - Just missed breaking her maiden in last at Belmont, being beaten by a head in the last stride. Five-furlong distance should be perfect. Speed shown in all starts, and today looks like graduation day. (# 1) Grand Attraction - Heavily bet in bow when race was switched to the main track. Showed some speed before tiring late. Sharp work on Oct. 24 for this race. Lasix is added today. Dangerous opponent. (# 9) A Mystical Melody - Both grass tries are good efforts. Ran second at this abbreviated distance at Delaware in late September. Should sit a comfortable trip outside the speed. (# 3) Classic Humor - Makes only her second lifetime start, the first coming last February at Tampa Bay. Took some action and showed some speed in dirt sprint. Tries turf today and will need to be ready to compete with these. CALDER Race #FIVE (2:15 PM Eastern) (# 7) MIND ERASER - Filly cost $400,000 has been bet right along as though their was ability present. Started her career with Bill Mott, is now with Bill White. Excellent maiden win in last over this surface, which was her first race in three months. Continues to train well and White may have her straightened out. (# 5) Clever Dame - May be the fastest of these early on. Has displayed front-running tactics in just about every start. Dangerous if she clears early. (# 4) Anascual - Good try first-out against winners in last at the Meadowlands after breaking her maiden in prior effort. Has some speed and should sit just off the expected speed. (# 3) Deputy Princess - Pletcher-trained filly isn't very talented, but she fits with these if she runs her best race. Has improved her game with the switch to the turf and mid-pack type may rally late. CALDER Race #SEVEN (3:10 PM Eastern) (# 5) LIZARD - Makes his first start for the powerful Frank Calabrese stable. Trainer Wesley Ward has his horses in So. Florida. Speed shown in all starts, and today new trainer takes the blinkers off and adds Lasix. Both are strong moves by the conditioner. (# 3) Funny Book - Excellent trainer (Fawkes) sends out son of "Fappie's Notebook" for his initial effort. Several sharp drills are on view, and he need not be much to impact this group. (# 1) Glorious Return - Last was his best yet, as he showed some speed while pinned inside in a seven-furlong race. Appears to be coming around a bit. (# 7) King Mongo - Only time he hit the board was two back when in at this claiming tag. Last wasn't bad against tougher. CALDER Race #TEN (4:30 PM Eastern) (# 1) STREET HONOUR - Trouble in all four races to date. Has been favored in a pair, so ability is probably present. Blinkers go on today, and maybe that will cure his bad gate habits. Has shown speed in all races. (# 8) L Ballou - Drops to his lowest level for this effort. Has shown hints of some talent against better. This field is pretty weak, so he is a legitimate win candidate. (# 3) Don't Poke the Bear - Well-backed in only start against much better. Had problems at the break, so the race should be forgiven. Had worked faster than these can run prior to the first outing. (# 6) Doctor Duke - Expected long odds for this horse, who may sneak into the tri and super bottoms. Needs to not try for the top to accomplish that goal.
