Horse Racing Entry - November 18, 2008

As with yesterday, the major racing centers are closed today and won't reopen until tomorrow, so today we'll have three races from Philadelphia Park and a pair from Turf Paradise.

Today's Best Bet is #5 Land Grant in Race #8 at Philadelphia Park.

Monday's Results: Turf Paradise Race #3 Top Pick #3 (Bond) $4.40.

Turf Paradise Race #6 Ex. Box (4-7) $32.00.

Today's Horse Racing Picks:

PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #6 at 2:30 PM Eastern

Top pick: #10 (GREEN SUEDE SHOES) - Stakes placed last out in a $112K race at Charles Town. Lightly raced and very fast early on. Working sharply for a top trainer (Mike Trombetta) and he'll be tough to catch.
2nd pick: #3 (EURO CODE) - Solid performer against tougher all season. Winless on the year, but he'll race under $20,000 for the first time. Big win chance.
3rd pick: #2 (Crafty Tricker) - Wide trip in his last at this tag in his second start for the Vader's barn. Not as quick as the top pair, so he'll need a trouble free trip and some late kick.
4th pick: #5 (Melodeeman) - He's had a solid season (10-3-3-3) with most coming at Delaware Park. Fits with these, but he'll need to transfer his form to this surface, as he's never raced on this dirt.

PHILADELPHIA Race #7 at 2:55 PM Eastern
Top pick: #7 (EL BATALLLON) - Very competitive race on view, whick makes for a good betting contest. Veteran was claimed two back by trainer Jayne Vaders and she sprinted him for $20K in his first start off the buy. Had some traffic issues but still managed to finish fourth. Sent long again today and runs below the purchase price. Can win it at a square price.
2nd pick: #3 (Bailey's Mountain) - Also trained by Jayne Vaders, this runner was also sprinted fresh off a claim and will also go long and drop below the price paid. Speedy sort draws the rail and should be in it from the start.
3rd pick: #1 (No Passing Zone) - Another veteran who changed hands two back, this one being claimed by the Mike Gill/Tim Hooper combination. Made up a lot of ground sprinting last out and will be sent long, something that he does very well.
4th pick: #6 (Red Dirt Road) - This runner from the barn of Scott Lake brings both speed and stalking ability to the fray. Consistent runner fits, but will need his very best for a shot at the win.
5th pick: #1a (Arpleasure.) - Coupled in the wagering with "No Passing Zone". He'll be making his first start off a Gill claim and a subsequent seven-week rest. Fits if ready to race and he has a fondness for this surface.

PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #8 at 3:20 PM Eastern
Top pick: #5 (LAND GRANT) - Owned by the high-profile West Point Thoroughbred operation, colt showed speed in his debut at Saratoga and finished third after tiring in the stretch. Sent in for some time off by trainer Kiaran McLaughlin, he returned with a sharp maiden win at the Meadowlands seven weeks ago. Working sharply since, he can win this on the top end.
2nd pick: #1 (Musket Man) - Impressed in his debut at Belmont, rating off the pace and rallying late to draw off. Race was slightly more than three weeks ago, and he has a very fast work since. Win threat from the rail.
3rd pick: #4 (The Prince) - Wasn't bet in his debut, but he didn't care as he won in smart fashion at Delaware for trainer Tony Dutrow. Final time was solid and anytime a young runner passes horses the first time out, it's a good sign.

TURF PARADISE Race #4 at 3:55 PM Eastern
Top pick: #3 (DOLLY VARTEN) - Big speed on view last out in her second back off three-month layoff. In a good barn (Eric Kruljac) and filly looks set-up to take these from start-to-finish.
2nd pick: #7 (Baby Snooks) - Exits the same race as the top pick and this filly stayed close-up the whole race. Effort was her first in two months and she has proven a good performer this year (11-1-4-1).
3rd pick: #8 (Kool Peach) - Showed some ability last spring and filly sent in for a long layoff after her maiden win in late April. Raced evenly in her return against better and she'll drop down for her second start back.
4th pick: #6 (Take It Sara) - Comes here by way of the No. California circuit she has raced poorly in her two start agsinst winners after breaking her maiden in Sept. at Stockton. Exotics possibility.

TURF PARADISE Race #5 at 4:20 PM Eastern
Top pick: #4 (PARTNER IN CRIME) - Last, her second back off a half-years absence was her best ever. Broke running, set a fast pace, and only gave way in the last 1/16th. Wire-to-wire threat.
2nd pick: #6 (Magic Marker) - She's "hit the board" in eight of her 15 starts, with all at this $5K tag or less. Filly should be in a good position just off the top pick. The next most likely.
3rd pick: #5 (Hitchell) - Was behind "Partner" the whole way last out and could not go by her late. She tends to race close-up and "hang" late. Needs to finish better.
4th pick: #3 (Nicole's Magic) - Makes her third start back off a two-month layoff and filly has finished non-threatening fourths in that pair. May sneak into the exotics if one or more of the top three picks race poorly.
