Horse Racing Pick - November 17, 2008Today with the major centers closed, we have a total of five races, three from Philadelphia Park and a pair from Turf Paradise. Today's Best Bet is #3 Ollyollyoxenfree in Race #4 at Philadelphia Park. Sunday's Results: Fair Grounds Race #4 Top Pick #1 (Burrowing Owl) $5.60. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #3 (OLLYOLLYOXENFREE) - Filly will drop in value and move to the dirt after an even effort at the Meadowlands in a maiden-special on the turf. Daughter of "Forestry" raced evenly that day and the move into a claimer will make her tough. Trainer (Derek Ryan) is very sharp second time out. 2nd pick: #2 (Sally Belle) - Trainer Larry Jones has a good percentage when stretching runners out in distance (23%). This filly has run evenly in a pair of sprints against tougher and she should be involved from start-to-finish. 3rd pick: #4 (Domesticalista) - Showed a "hint" of speed in her debut sprinting against tougher. Trainer (John Servis) drops her in price, sends her two-turns, and adds blinkers. Contender. 4th pick: #1 (Single Scoop) - Comes here by way of Chicago where this daughter of "Scrimshaw" tried "poly" twice with little success, but ran a little better last out at Hawthorne on a "sloppy" main-track. Appears to be improving and unlike many others entered, she'll "get the trip" without tiring. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #7 at 2:55 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (SNUCK IN LOVE) - Returned just over a month ago at Laurel after being on the sidelines for 27 months. Showed promise in Florida when he was two, and his return race was no doubt badly needed. Continues to train well and he drops into a claimer today. Ready to show what he has left. 2nd pick: #8 (Jake's Lion) - Broke his maiden last out and he's clearly on the improve. This is his first try with fellow winners and this son of "Lion Hearted" may have more improvement in him. 3rd pick: #9 (Everythingsismagic) - Tired going long last out in an allowance in his first start off an Eberd Estrada claim. Drops back into a claimer and shortens up in distance. Should run much better. 4th pick: #5 (Texas Charlie) - He's run competitively in his three races at this level since breaking his maiden on September 6. Mid-pack type is coming off a strong race and the pace set-up here could be to his benefit. TURF PARADISE Race #3 at 3:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (BOND) - Broke from the rail last out in his first race at this tag in a contest common to many entered. Rated and raced evenly with a late move to finish a close-up third. In a winning barn (Keith Bennett) and think he'll be involved earlier today. 2nd pick: #2 (Wanted) - He's proven to be a reliable runner since starting his career (11-1-0-6) and broke his maiden on November 3, in his first try on this dirt. He strteches back out off of that race, but he's a good distance runner. Major player. 3rd pick: #5 (Billy Boy Blue) - Drops and stretches out today for trainer Joe Toye. Looks like the main speed and his two best races have come at this distance (2-1-1-0). Could be tough to catch. 4th pick: #7 (Strategist) - Makes his third start back off a two-month layoff and he's run evenly in his first pair. Small slice may be his ceiling. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #9 at 3:50 PM Eastern Top pick: #5 (EDIKIT) - New York shipper has plenty of speed to bring, and that's what usually wins these cheap maiden affairs. Gelded son of "Distorted Humor" was an expensive ($200,000) yearling purchase and drops down today to a $12,500 maiden-claimer. Now or Never! 2nd pick: #1 (Razzle Dazzle) - Good return speed shown at this tag and distance last out in his first race in almost five months. In a good barn (Richard Vega) and a move forward of his latest makes him a big factor. 3rd pick: #9 (Sergeant Keith) - Dropped down to this price last out, he was battling for the lead when another runner forced him very wide around the turn costing him any chance at the win. Son of "Servive Stripe" has raced against better right along, and a clear trip should have him in this. 4th pick: #3 (Cattini) - He's been competitive in his last three all at this tag and distance. Stalker should get a fast pace to help his style out, but he'll need to do a bit better to win. TURF PARADISE Race #6 at 4:55 PM Eastern Top pick: #5 (Gemini's Ruler) - Tired last out on November 4, his first race since late April. Race was his first for Justin Evans and runner can win this with a slight move forward off the return run. 2nd pick: #4 (Who's Legacy) - Shortens up for this and he ran very well on this surface last out in his first appearance here. He's run well in sprints against tougher at Prairie Meadows, and he's a win contender. 3rd pick: #7 (River Bold) - Shortens up for his second try against winners. Lightly-raced five-year-old curiously has never sprinted in his 10-race career. This 6.5-furlong race should be in his range and he draws a nice post. 4th pick: #3 (Matt's Champ) - Stakes winner in Idaho, he's run evenly in his pair of starts at this level, on this surface. Need only move forward a bit to contend. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
