Handicapping The Preakness - November 15, 2007

Our best bet scratched yesterday but our picks posted a couple of solid wins. Our big winner was from Aqueduct race No. 7 as we hit the trifecta (9-5-6) for $104.50. Top Pick from Aqueduct race No. 5 hit for $6.60 and we also nailed an exacta (1-6) good for $23.

Today we go back to Aqueduct for selections and analysis on four races.

(# 3) SWAY WITH THE WIND - Returns for top layoff trainer. Faced tougher at Delawarw Park despite racing at the same level as today at Aqueduct. Dangerous tactical speed. Loves this mile distance. Barn winning at a huge 28% this year.

(# 2) Appealing Sound - Consistent lifetime winner is ready to stretch back out to a mile. Good efforts last two starts off the trainer change. Handles dry or wet track.

(# 5) August Song - Good efforts last two starts at today's one-turn mile. Lacked room on rail last out against tougher. Drops. Sharp win two back against similar. Consistent runner.

(# 1) SILVER PARADISE - Deserving favorite catches softest field in her career. Versatile filly can shoot to the lead or stalk. Reunited with Castellano who forms a strong trainer/rider combo.

(# 9) Jeannine Joy - Hard used dueling from tough inside post in debut. Drops a notch and draws outside which should help. Gets good speed rider. Solid work Nov. 11.

(# 5) Runaway Star - Returns. Big improvement expected off a realistic drop in class. Throw out last in deep mud against far tougher. Cut back only helps.

(# 6) BAILERO - Powerful win last out switching to Aqueduct - his favorite track. Dangerous to repeat taking smart rise in class. Relishes today's mile distance. Has excellent tactical speed.

(# 3) Military Major - Makes first start for Arroyo, who has been red hot this meet. Claimed off a fine effort back on dirt at today's mile distance. Gets Arroyo who forms a strong trainer/rider combo.

(# 4) Wild Vicar - Overcame tough rail post to defeat second selection in last. Loves this track and distance. Draws a better post as well.

(# 6) DIXIELAND STAR - Good second in debut despite racing wide all the way. Held well after making a strong middle move. Gets a softer spot today. Has a superb pedigree.

(# 3) Blizzard City - Third to top pick in last but was hurt by a troubled start and rushihng up to contest a lively pace. Cuts back to a better distance and shows two works since last start.

(# 4) Icabad Crane - $110,000 two-year-old purchase froma strong new sire. Ships up from Fair Hill for top trainer Motion. Bred to handle 6 1/2 first time out.
