Belmont Stakes - November 14, 2008Wunderdog Racing is expanding its daily racing menu! The temperature outside may be dropping, but that is no reason to keep our West Coast subscribers left out in the cold! Our new racing menu will now feature five races per day and will consist of two afternoon races from Aqueduct, one later race from the Fair Grounds and two races from either Hollywood Park or Santa Anita. We hope that our new expanded menu will be able to meet the needs of our subscribers from coast to coast! At present, Hollywood and Aqueduct are both "dark" on Mondays and Tuesdays and New Orleans is closed on Tuesdays as well. Today we feature five races with two selections from Aqueduct, two from Hollywood Park as well as one race from the Fair Grounds. Hollywood is running a night program today, with a first post of 7:05 (PST) and 10:05 (EST). Please note that Friday is the only day that they have that scenario. With heavy rain still falling, it's doubtful that the Aqueduct races will remain on the turf. The two we have selected, races #7 and #9, are analyzed for the DIRT with TURF selections in the event they stay on in the "special race notes" under the analysis. Today's Best bet is #2 Send in Race #7 at the Fair Grounds. Thursday's Results: Churchill Race #2 T-fecta (Box of the three selections) $54.80. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #11 (SUCCESS FEE) - Improving three-year-old has proven that he can run against winners at this level and if this race is run on the main-track (as expected) he'll be very tough to beat. In shape, lightly-raced, and working well. Only concern is lack of any experience on an "off" track. 2nd pick: #14 (Wood Winner) - Trainer (Randi Persaud) has had a break-out year, and has done so by improving older runners. Veteran won his last at this distance, on this surface, in his best race since the summer. More than capable of stringing good races together. 3rd pick: #15 (Fly the North Wind) - Raced close-up against allowance foes last out, but could only finish evenly while racing wide. Capable with a patient ride, and he's done some good work at this particular distance. Has a pair of good "off-track" efforts. 4th pick: #5 (Alexandros) - Freshened-up since a pair of sub-par efforts in late summer. Son of "Mayakovsky" will need to be in his best form to factor, but can run with these if in shape off the seven-week break. Special Race Notes: In the event that this race stays on the grass, the selections are: #3-Don't Fooli Hooli #8-Bontempi #4-Key Event #6-Dantastic AQUEDUCT Race #9 at 4:10 PM Eastern Top pick: #14 (NAJRANS STAR) - Comes back quickly for this having just raced at the Meadowlands a week ago. Trainer (Richard Dutrow) is one of the best on the fast turnaround, and if as expected this race goes on the dirt, this filly could prove successful. 2nd pick: #15 (Indy's Forum) - Another who would be racing on "short notice" (six days). Speedy filly has only three starts since February and should be nearing her best. Could prove very tough to catch. 3rd pick: #13 (Elusive Flower) - Lightly-raced filly has put together a pair of impresive wins back-to-back, going wire-to-wire in both. These are significantly tougher and there is other speed signed on. Difficult, but not imposible. 4th pick: #9 (Unbridled Union) - Moves back to the dirt after a failed pace-chasing try at this level on the Belmont turf. Capable with rating tactics, and the speed here could come back late. Special Race Notes: In the event that this race stays on the turf, the selections are: #8-Ardnavagh #10-Smartgabrielle #7-Choosing #5-My Anna Rose FAIR GROUNDS Race #7 at 4:20 PM Eastern Top pick: #2 (TEND) - Nicely-bred runner ("Dynaformer") has been carefully brought along by trainer Al Stall. Barn usually points towards this meet and runner comes into this off a win at Keeneland, on a surface that is not his best. Stretches out today and I believe that he's faced tougher along the way then he meets here. Big work last Friday indicates his readiness. 2nd pick: #3 (Southern Style) - Another well-bred runner and he resides in a top barn. Won his "distance" debut in the mud and this son of "Forestry" may be just finding himself. 3rd pick: #10 (Inner Light) - Son of "Sondandaprayer" cost $650,000, so he can be viewed as a big disappointment. Had a fine effort on the Arlington "poly" three back but has been "dull" in his last pair. Fresh start at this meet may do him some good. 4th pick: #8 (Cajun Contest) - Cagey trainer (Patrick Mouton) had a great meet here last season. Colt has been freshened-up since finishing second in his last three starts, and trainer is very good at bringing them back "ready to go." HOLLYWOOD PARK Race #3 at 11:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #4 (VITAL FORCE) - Maiden win last out was his best effort to date. Winning race was at this distance at Santa Anita and it fits well with the best that this group can produce. Draws outside the other contenders, and at this seven-furlong distance, that's a distinct advantage. Mild upset is predicted. 2nd pick: #3 (Gold Start Status) - Has a pair of strong second-place finishes at this level, one each at Del Mar and Santa Anita. He's improved his game significantly since coming to the barn of Peter Eurton. Very tough oponent. 3rd pick: #2 (Exotic Story) - The main speed, he may have it his own way for a very long time and that could lead to a big effort. Well-bred runner is a legitimate threat on the front-end. HOLLYWOOD PARK Race #4 at 11:25 PM Eastern Top pick: #4 (MY LUCKY STAR) - Makes her third start back from a layoff for trainer Beau Greely. Filly finished a fine third in her return race, then raced "between" runners almost the whole distance in her latest. Fits well with this field and she has a pair of very sharp works heading into this. 2nd pick: #5 (Toy's Toy) - Another who will be going third off a rest (nine months). Has some speed and earlier in her career ran competitively against tougher. Blinkers come off today and believe she'll give whatever she has tonight. 3rd pick: #1 (Reel Danger) - Crafty trainer (Jeff Mullins) had filly send hard in her debut agsinst tougher before tiring late. That was a month ago and filly has worked five times since. Drops slightly and trainer is a strong 19% second time out. 4th pick: #3 (Isabella's Crown.) - Stays at the same tag, but will be cutting back to a sprint. Looks fit enough, but will have to rally from far back. Her best race came in her only try on conventional dirt (at Fairplex). Small slice may be her ceiling. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
