Preakness Picks - November 13, 2008The "historic" Fair Grounds in New Orleans will open for busines tomorrow afternoon - its 137th season of racing. As the quality has improved significantly over the past several years, we'll be including a race or sometimes two from there in our daily newsletter. Today we have a pair of races each from Aqueduct and Churchill Downs. Today's Best Bet is #3 Private Gentleman in Race #4 at Churchill Downs. Wednesday's Results: Churchill Downs Race #6 Ex. (box of the 3 selections) 7-8, $25.00. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #3 (HITCH YOUR WAGON) - Filly cuts back to a mile, gets the addition of blinkers, and moves back to the Churchill main-track, the scene of her strongest effort. She is ready to get her picture taken. 2nd pick: #4 (Ash) - Stretches back out after finishing second in her latest sprinting when dropped into a claimer for the first time. Drops slightly for this and is a major player. 3rd pick: #1a (Ringbang City) - Had a decent first outing at Ellis Park almost three months ago. Freshened up since by trainer Dale Romans, filly drops into a claimer and will stretch out in distance. CHURCHILL DOWNS Race #4 at 2:05 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (PRIVATE GENTLEMAN) - Colt drops in class and will return to the surface where he raced very well against better last summer. All of that and the presence of jockey Leparoux should lead to the maiden win. 2nd pick: #10 (Bonwell) - Versatile four-year-old has run well over both dirt and "poly" and has done so at a variety of distances. Returns quickly for this (six days) after finishing close-up against better. Dangerous foe. 3rd pick: #5 (Sherif) - Looks like a fire sale as trainer Dale Romans drops this expensive colt ($350,000) into a $15K claimer. If he can run at all, he'll show it today. 4th pick: #9 (Yankee Don) - His best effort came on conventional dirt in his debut. He's run decently since and could impact the exotics at a nice price. AQUEDUCT Race #6 at 2:45 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (BEAUTY BY GEORGE) - Heavily bet in her bow, she did not break well from an inside post and raced far back early gefore making up a lot of ground late. Trainer Richard Dutrow adds lasix today, a strong 32% stat for the high-percentage barn. 2nd pick: #9 (A.P.Light) - Rallied late in her latest to finish second at this tag in a much improved performance over her debut. Extra furlong along with an outside draw should aid her cause. 3rd pick: #11 (Deadlocked) - Flashed some speed in her debut before tiring late while not pushed during the stretch run. Trainer Gary Gullo adds blinkers for this and filly could improve dramatically in start number two. 4th pick: #8 (Angelic Timber) - Beaten three lengths in her latest by the second choice here, she had the rail that day and offered an "even" performance. Look for better in her third race combined with the move off the rail. AQUEDUCT Race #8 at 3:40 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (ARE WE DREAMIN) - With the prospect of a track condition something other than fast, this hard-hitter could upset this field. Ultra-consistent all season(16-5-3-4) and her wet-track form is excellent (9-1-6-1). Wins this with her best. 2nd pick: #7 (City Bird) - Speedy filly draws a nice post at this 6.5 furlong distance to flaunt her speed. Shortens-up and has a good record at this trip (2-1-1-0). 3rd pick: #3 (Tar Hill Mom) - Lightly raced and talented, she's placed in a pair of small stakes at Belmont in her last two efforts. Working fast and she's a big threat. 4th pick: #4 (Miss Blue Tye Dye) - Very consistent sprinter and stakes performer in the mid-Atlantic area, she's in shape, fast, and comes in off some sharp works.
