Preakness Stakes - November 13, 2007

We had the right idea in several races yesterday, but our top selections fizzled out.  Had the right animals in the selections, but not in the proper order.

With the major sites and Calder dark today, we'll turn our attention to Turf Paradise and Philadelphia Park.

Today's Best Bet is #8  I.B.A. Runaway in Race #8 at Turf Paradise.

Today's Horse Racing Picks:

PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #FOUR (1:45 PM Eastern)

(# 2) CROWN THE PRINCESS - Stretches off her best race to date. Has a nice post and should be just off the leaders. Can save all the ground and upset these at a good mutual. Would use this filly and the second pick on top in this race.
(# 7) Priceless Gift - Big-time player makes her first-ever start on conventional dirt, after running on grass and a pair of poly surfaces. Nice work listed, and she goes first time for Ramon Preciado, and he's winning with 32% of his new trainees.
(# 9) Highland Rapids - Probable favorite needs a lot of things to break right. Has had 14 starts without winning, the last several at this price tag.
(# 3) Milliondollarbaby - Improved significantly in last which came on the Meadowlands turf. Last pair have the look of conditioning runs, and today with blinkers on, looks like the money run.

TURF PARADISE Race #THREE (3:20 PM Eastern)
(# 4) PRORUNNER - Goes third off a layoff and also switches surfaces. Proven against tougher in the past, he has only run twice on the grass, but should handle the infield based on his breeding. Looks like a handful.
(# 2) Gold Bankers Gold - Probable favorite is going for his fourth win in a row, including a grass win here on Oct. 6. Proven runner and winner is going for his 15th lifetime victory. Tough if he repeats any of his last three.
(# 7) Plenty of Heat - Makes his first start since early August after having run eight times in '07 up to that point. Owns five lifetime wins on the grass, including three on this surface. Working well for the return.
(# 6) Ragin Nono - Has one start on the grass, and it produced a win on this infield. Ran well at Emerald Downs this spring and summer on the dirt. Working well for his first race since Aug. 6.

TURF PARADISE Race #FOUR (3:45 PM Eastern)
(# 4) COOL ALL OVER - Nice pair of second-place finishes in return from a four-month vacation. Has speed and can track and finish. Filly should be up near the lead while down inside.
(# 8) Found in Dark - Has improved in all three starts to date, and the maiden win in last was visually impressive. Not a lot of speed signed on here, and she may get the lead rather easily. Filly is more than capable against these.
(# 9) Siberian Breeze - Moves up to try allowance foes today after running well in last at a low claiming tag. Stalking style in here is a plus.
(# 7) Kokopelli Trail - Goes third off a two-month layoff for trainer Kevin Eikleberry. Has a mid-pack style and may sneak into the tri or even the exacta.

TURF PARADISE Race #EIGHT (5:25 PM Eastern)
(# 8) I.B. A. RUNAWAY - Obviously has some problems as he's almost six without a win and only seven lifetime starts. Had a dirt prep for this, his first start in ten months. Gets blinkers on and moves back to the grass. Good shot at a square price.
(# 9) A Triple A - Any son of "Woodman" should run well on the grass. Started his career on the infield before running on poly surfaces in last three. From the top So. Cal barn of Vlad Cerin.
(# 6) Hibernian Prince - Has been competitive in all, but needs to be able to finish better as runner appears to have some "hang" in him.
(# 1) Ancient Sea - Initial grass race was encouraging. Barn switch to Bart Hone may also have aided his progress. Well-bred and lightly raced, he needs to move forward to contend for the win. At this stage a minor award may be his ceiling.
(# 4) Free Brush - Has shown just enough that he may be able to get into the Superfecta and maybe the tri. Not a win candidate, but a small slice contender.
