Harness Horse Racing - November 12, 2008

Congratulations to jockey Justin Leparoux, currently Churchill Down's leading rider. He became only the 2nd reinsman in the 134 year history of the track to win 7 races on a single card. The only other to accomplish the  "feat" was "Hall of Famer" Pat Day back in 1984.

Today we have two races each from Aqueduct and Churchill Downs.

Best Bet is # 4 Unaccountable in Race # 4 at Aqueduct.

Today's Horse Racing Picks:

AQUEDUCT Race #4 at 1:50 PM Eastern

Top pick: #4 (UNACCOUNTABLE) - Colt finished 2nd last out against tougher foes and trainer Chad Brown will drop him in value for this attempt at his maiden victory. Latest was on a course with some "give" in it and a similar situation should occur today.

2nd pick: #1 (Pure Tantrum) - Has some speed in a race without much and is improving. Draws the hedge and is a contender in a race with a lot of question marks.

3rd pick: #5 (Mischief) - Has no speed, but finished 2nd with a strong late rally on Oct 4th when dropped into a claimer for the first time. Obviously would appreciate some pace to run at.

4th pick: #8 (Intaglio) - Goes 2nd off a layoff and he showed some late run in his first start back. Barn (Barclay Tagg) is good in these 2nd off the bench situations.

Top pick: #5 (GOLDEN POLICY) - Filly pressed the pace from a wide post (12) at this level going 7 furlongs last out. Post is better, as is the distance (6 furlongs) where all her career wins have come.

2nd pick: #7 (Captive) - Filly is 2 for 2 on this surface and recently returned from over a year on the sidelines. Nice to see her come back quickly and she'll drop to a career low in price for trainer Bernie Flint.

3rd pick: #3 (Super Suz) - Good try last out at this level, and like the top pick she'll be cutting back a furlong today. Exotics factor.

4th pick: #4 (Bid Made) - Hard-hitter returns from a short break and will drop slightly in price today. Consistent all year with 4 wins and 3 other placings, she'll be shortening up for this. Meeds her best off the rest.

Top pick: #4 (Hawkinsville) - Claimed three starts back by the high % Bruce Brown, he had a poor post in his first start for the trainer, but still made a nice move before flattening out. Given two months off he was "prepped" in a turf race to set him up for this effort. Drops in class and goes a mile on the dirt, and that combination should lead to the win.

2nd pick: #8 (Akenobo) - Steps up in class today after winning his first start ever on the dirt on Oct 17th. Defeated a nice group that day and he's eligible to improve more in his 2nd start back.

3rd pick: #7 (Hurrah) - Lost to a longshot on Halloween as a heavy favorite with no visible excuse. Runner was re-claimed two back by Gary Contessa and is eligible to improve today.

4th pick: #6 (Unigold) - Comes into this in sharp form, but those races were on the turf. He's never been successful on the dirt, but can't be ignored.

Top pick: #5 (MISS BROOKLYN B) - Drops and returns to her favorite surface today for the "crafty" Elwood McCann. Last pair on this dirt produced a win and a close-up 2nd place finish earlier this year. She's been competitive all year against allowance types, and the drop into a claimer should get her the win.

2nd pick: #8 (Iron Butterfly) - Returning from a rest, filly scored on this surface in June for trainer Wally Dollase. Beat better that day and she'll be taking a drop in class today. That, and the presence of jockey Justin Leparoux add up to a small price.

3rd pick: #7 (Quick Notice) - Working well for her first race in two months and only her 2nd try on conventional dirt. Albarado is enlisted and filly should be a square price.
