Horse Racing Pick - November 11, 2008The Fair Grounds in New Orleans will open its 137th racing season this Friday instead of it's traditional opening on Thanksgiving Day. The quality the past two seasons in my opinion surpassed that of Gulfstream, with many major barns now calling it their winter home. Average purse distribution per day will be in the $300,000 range. Track will serve as a daily part of our wagering menu with large fields the norm. One gets set to open and another closes. Delaware Park ends it long season today, one that began way back on April 19th. Four races are on our racing menu, two each from Delaware and Philly Park. Today's Best Bet is #3 Remember Shirley in Race #2 at Delaware Park. Monday's Results: Philadelphia Park Race #3 T-fecta (Box of the 3 selections) 3-1-5 $128.20. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #1 (TIN SOLDIER) - Set/pressed the pace last out from a wide post at this price going six furlongs. Race was his best overall since 2007. Draws the rail and shortens-up a 1/2 furlong. Speed threat. 2nd pick: #7 (THISONESFORSAM) - Very game effort in his latest in his second start back off a three month vacation, coming up a 1/2 length short. Ultra-competitive (57-20-13-4) and he fits perfectly here. Very tough opponent. 3rd pick: #10 (Enola's Little Boy) - Very wide trip last out at this tag and distance. Race was his third off a layoff and marked his first time at this bottom tag. Contender at very good odds. 4th pick: #3 (Flaminsun) - Last was a step in the right direction as he stayed close-up and held his ground late. Veteran has several efforts earlier this year that would make him a win contender. Good price is expected. DELAWARE PARK Race #2 at 12:45 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (REMEMBER SHIRLEY) - Enters this in sharp form and she's been particularly good since dropping under $15K in claiming price. Capable against better earlier this year, she has both speed and a rating gear. The choice for the win. 2nd pick: #8 (Shoot the Bugler) - Veteran mare is (4-1-3-0) in dirt sprints since dropping down to this tag. Well-spotted today, this will be her first start ever on this surface, though she's run well at three different locations already this year. Dangerous foe. 3rd pick: #2 (J's Little Diva) - She'll take a significant drop today in her third start since returning from an 11-month layoff. Lightly raced and capable, she has races in her past that would win this, but she needs to pick it up off her latest. 4th pick: #5 (Debbie's a Trip) - She's (0-1-4) in her last six, most at either the $5k or $10K level. This group is tougher than she's accustomed to and a small slice may be her best finish. DELAWARE PARK Race #4 at 1:40 PM Eastern Top pick: #7 (AFFIRMATION) - Sharp maiden last out at Philly Park in her first start for Mr. Scott Lake. Race fits with the best that these can do, and trainer can improve them quickly. Sharp, in-shape, and ready to win another. 2nd pick: #6 (Elegant Style) - Well-bred and lightly raced. Daughter of "Jump Start" was sharp in her maiden win three back and was outrun against much tougher in her first against winners. Drop down last out led to a second-place finish running for $12,500. Moves back up, but fits snuggly here. 3rd pick: #3 (Quiet Lee ) - Lots of changes today. Has a new trainer (Armand Correnti), doubles in claiming price, shortens-up in distance, and gets the addition of blinkers. The cut back should have her racing mid-pack early. 4th pick: #1 (All For Brook) - Last was a solid second-place finish at this price in a very small field. She's never won at this distance as her best seems to be going longer. Has some speed and draws the rail. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #6 at 2:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #7 (SUSQUEHANNA RIVER) - Filly ran well in her debut at Delaware Park, chasing solid fractions, bidding, but settling for a close-up third-place finish. Lasix is added for this and daughter of "Trippi" draws outside of the other contenders. Wins this from just off the lead. 2nd pick: #1 (Check Point) - Heavily bet in her debut, daughter of "Posse" raced wide after breaking sharply. Nice educational run, and today blinkers are added by trainer Alan Goldberg. Draws the rail and should run much better. 3rd pick: #2 (Naughty Kitty ) - Debuts for a very sharp barn (Steve Klesaris) off some solid works at trainer's homebase of Fair Hill. Trainer wins at 22% first time out and this daughter of "Tale of the Cat" looks ready to run. 4th pick: #6 (Reine De Lions) - Filly will be making her fourth start and she's run well in her last pair finishing second in both. Speed is her game and she may try and win this early. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
