Horse Racing Line - November 05, 2008An evaluation of last month's national betting totals on thoroughbred racing indicates that the overall handle from October "07" and the just completed corresponding month was down 6.9%. Also, figures from the fall yearling and older horse sales have also been in decline, reflecting the state of the economy as a whole. Today we have three races from Aqueduct and one from Churchill Downs. Best Bet is #3 Just a Coincidence in Race #7 at Churchill Downs. Tuesday's Results: Delaware Park Race #3 = Trifecta (box of selections 6-1-4) Pd. $288.00 Philadelphia Park Race #4 = Top Pick (#1 Envious) Finished 2nd Pd. $8.80pl ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #1a (SLEEK HUNTER) - Makes his 3rd start off a layoff, drops in value, and stretches out for the Richard Dutrow barn. Lightly raced colt improved in his 2nd back and a further move forward could get the job done. 2nd pick: #5 (Love Everbody) - Takes a big drop and moves back to the dirt for trainer Gary Contessa. Colt finished 2nd running for 50K in late May at Churchill at one of these one-turn miles. Latest effort on the turf was encouraging and it should set him up well for today. 3rd pick: #7 (Best Big Band) - Another going 3rd off a long break, this one for "Hall of Famer" Allen Jerkens. Positive rider switch to Castellano who was aboard for his win at Gulfstream at this distance last January. 4th pick: #8 (Hard Iron) - Late on the scene type likes this distance and will be going 2nd off a long layoff. Level is right and he's a late threat for the exotics. AQUEDUCT Race #2 at 12:55 PM Eastern Top pick: #4 (RED HOT BABY) - Excellent debut speed shown by this filly at the MSW level on October 18th. Comes back quickly for her 2nd start, drops into a claimer and gets the addition of blinkers. Trainer (John Terranova) is solid 2nd time out (18%). 2nd pick: #7 (Cherry Lady) - This filly has run competitively in her pair of starts, both on the turf against maiden-special foes. Drops into a claimer for trainer Barclay Tagg and gets the addition of blinkers. 3rd pick: #2 (Devilish Ghost) - First time starter has some nice works at Philadelphia Park in preparation for this. Daughter of "Freud" is in a good barn (Tony Dutrow) and draws the rail. 4th pick: #5 (Isyouis) - Made some late progress in her debut just 11 days ago for trainer Gary Contessa. She took her share of money that day and could easily improve enough to factor here. AQUEDUCT Race #4 at 1:50 PM Eastern Top pick: #4 (TRUSTING HEART) - Daughter of "Lion Heart" debuted in the slop last May and finished 3rd to a pair of talented fillies ( "Silent Valor" and "Rapid Redux"). Sent in for a long rest, she returned on Oct 8th on the grass and and it had the look of a much needed "prep" race. She's worked 3 times since, moves to the dirt and drops into a claimer. The choice for the win. 2nd pick: #8 (Higher Place) - Excellent speed shown in her debut on Oct 6th at the Meadowlands. Son of "Trippi" drops into a claimer for a barn (Steve Asmussen) that excels 2nd time out (22%). 3rd pick: #1 (Braciole) - This trainer (Patrick Reynolds) likes to give them a start before asking them for their best. $205,000 daughter of "Not For Love" showed some speed in her debut which came on the turf. Makes her 2nd start, drops in for a tag and draws the rail. Good price is expected. 4th pick: #7 (Captain Booyah) - Fine speed shown in both of his starts and he'll be a factor here as he takes a drop in claiming price. Needs to find some more late energy. CHURCHILL DOWNS Race #7 at 3:35 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (JUST A COINCIDENCE) - Nicely-bred colt by "Forestry" has run well in all three of his starts in New York against some pretty tough opposition. He's held a winning position in his starts but has had some very poor racing luck. "Graduation Day". 2nd pick: #8 (Tribal Bead) - Responded in his 2nd start when sent a distance with a big effort just missing picking up the win. "Hall of Famer" Bill Mott looks to have him well set up for a shot at the maiden win. 3rd pick: #5 (Di's Dr Schumocker) - Makes his first start today on real dirt after a pair of decent tries on "polytrack". Colt continues to train well on this surface and could improve considerably with the surface switch. 4th pick: #2 (Lieutenant George) - Firster from the barn of Helen Pitts draws towards the inside for his debut. Well-bred and his works are encouraging. Tough assignment, but he could hit the exotics. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
