Horse Racing Handicapping - November 05, 2007

Delaware Park has been a part of our Monday and Tuesday selections since late April, closed for the season yesterday. For the time being, we will be doing Calder to begin each week with an occasional race from Philadelphia Park.

We're looking forward to the Fair Grounds and Tampa Bay which will be opening on Thanksgiving Day and in early December respectively.

Today's Best Bet is #5 El Bank Robber in Race #2 at Calder. THIS SELECTION IS FOR TURF ONLY!

Sunday's Results: Santa Anita Race #2 Top Pick Winner #3 (Island Hop) Paid $7.60. Exacta Top Pick with 2nd pick (3-5) Paid $20.80. Trifecta (3-5-8) Paid $69.20. Superfecta (3-5-8-6) Paid $182.60.

Today's Horse Racing Picks:

CALDER Race #ONE (12:25 PM Eastern)

(# 8) GRADED LADY - Like the progression shown. Poor post draws in first pair, she was sent long in third and dropped back in distance in last. Blinkers went on in that one and she ran well. Draws a good post for a seven-furlong race and can upset the favorite.
(# 5) Discovery Launch - Probable heavy favorite is a legitimate one in that she has the two best races run by any of these. Improved with the addition of Lasix two back, and will be tough to beat.
(# 6) Jill's Bay Lady - Has had 2 1-2 months off since her last race. Trainer's stock usually improves as they run more and the distances increase.
(# 4) Autumn Promise - Drops back in distance off a pair of two-turn tries. That pair should have her fit for the shorter try. Good price is assured.

CALDER Race #TWO (12:50 PM Eastern)
(# 5) EL BANK ROBBER - Returns from Kentucky Downs where she had a wide trip from a poor post (11). Previous tries here make her the horse to beat. Record on this course is very good (5-1-2-1). She's had five weeks since her Kentucky trip, and has three solid works leading into this.
(# 7) Tanguista - Lone start in the U.S. came at Saratoga. Drew a poor post (11), and was wide while chasing a very strong pace for the distance. Clement filly looks well meant.
(# 10) Ms.Wonder Woman - Has some fine races here on the turf (6-1-2-2), and returns to that surface in third off a layoff situation. On the main track in last pair, she needs to avoid a wide trip.
(# 1) Richie London - Gives away a lot of experience to these, and should be used on the bottom of exotic bets. She is improving and has the hedge.
(# 9) Island Friend - Strong finisher, may be able to make up enough ground to get into the super and/or tri. Others will have first run on her.

CALDER Race #FIVE (2:15 PM Eastern)
(# 1) QUAKER WAY - Good post in a very poor field may allow her in the second off the layoff situation to surprise these. Lightly raced three-year-old probably needed her last badly, as she hadn't run since the end of June. Should move forward off the recent sprint.
(# 4) Miss Malakia - Has the best last race of these to reccommend her. Proven at the price-tag, she is an obvious threat.
(# 7) Lets Go Out west - In-shape runner likes to rate and make a late move. Many in here are in questionable condition, and her present fitness is a plus.
(# 3) Honkeytonkville - Goes third off a layoff and improved a bit in the second start back. If she can repeat it, or move ahead some more, she will factor late.

Calder Race #NINE (4:05 PM Eastern)
(# 8) CLASSY GRAY - Excellent debut run showing some speed at five-furlongs at the $50K level. Stretches out two more furlongs today, and draws the best post. Can track the leaders and go by on the turn. Trainer is 20% with his second time starters.
(# 1) Florida Straits - Speed shown in both races to date with noticeable improvement from start one to two. Bet well in both appearances, and will be very tough.
(# 4) For Carole - Appears to be getting the hang of it after educational runs against better in her first several starts. Last pair of sprints were encouraging. Filly fits well in here.
(# 2) Schill - Problematic getaways in both starts to date. Trainer John shaw names a more experienced rider in Pedro Monterrey. Filly had worked very fast prior to her first race.
