Horse Racing Tip Sheet - November 03, 2008With both Aqueduct and Churchill Downs "dark" until Wednesday, we'll concentrate on Delaware and Philadelphia Park over the next two days. Delaware only runs thru next Tuesday, ending their very long season, which began in mid-April. Winter racing isn't far off with the Fair Grounds opening on Thanksgiving Day which they have done for many years. Four spot is on tap today with two each from Delaware and Philly Park! Today's Best Bet is #6 Nicole's Law in Race #6 at Philadelphia Park. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #3 (BALROG) - Scott Lake trainee was away from the races a very long time (10 months) before returning on July 7. He's improved in his starts since coming back and he went wire-to-wire in his latest. Stays at the same price and a repeat of his last would get the job done. 2nd pick: #7 (JohannesburgAffair) - Returns from a short freshening for trainer Juan Vasquez who is good in that department (22%). This will be the lowest tag he has ever raced at. Win threat. 3rd pick: #4 (House of Boo) - Another who'll be returning from a freshening. Claimed by owner Michael Gill last spring, gelding raced three times at Suffolk against tougher before being sent in for a freshening. Rest, combined with the drop, may make him competitive. 4th pick: #6 (Penny Poker) - He's won or been in the money in almost half his 30 starts, almost all in and around this claiming price. Exotics threat. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #4 at 1:35 PM Eastern Top pick: #8 (THISONESFORSAM) - Veteran recently returned from a three-month break after his form began to deteriorate earlier this year. Race on October 3, was solid, and marked his being reunited with trainer Jayne Vaders, who had him for some of his succesful races. Comes back to Philly where he has 16 career wins. Think he'll make it 17 today. 2nd pick: #1 (Uncle Divsie) - Dropped to this $5K tag last out for the first time, he closed strongly to miss by a "head" travelling seven furlongs. Stays at the same price and shortens up a furlong. Contender. 3rd pick: #11 (Tin Soldier) - Lake runner will make his third start back off a recent break and showed some improvement in his latest. Could surprise. 4th pick: #9 (Zeal Power) - He's finished in the money in four of his last five, all at this level. Can show speed or stalk, he's been successful both ways. DELAWARE PARK Race #5 at 2:05 PM Eastern Top pick: #8 (EASE MY MIND) - Raced well earlier this year in June on this surface against better, and was sent in for a rest following that race. Returned from the two-month break with the same owners, but with a new trainer (Pete Walder). He's raced well in all three for him and can win this with a repeat of any of those races. 2nd pick: #6 (Joe's Gold Seeker) - Finished evenly after tracking the pace last out against tougher. Drops and may have enough speed to clear, and that makes him a win candidate. 3rd pick: #5 (Vow of Silence) - Once classier and very speedy runner has been away almost two years. Returns at the bottom and with only three ho-hum works listed. Tough call. 4th pick: #1 (Jungle Cat) - Has some speed and picked up his second lifetime win last out at this tag. Stays at the same price and draws the rail for his first at this 3L condition. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #6 at 2:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #6 (NICOLE'S LAW) - Drops slightly after just failing to last in her latest after setting all the pace. Effort was strong and came in her second start for the Mike Gill/Tim Hooper tandem. Little other speed signed on and she's a strong win candidate. 2nd pick: #1 (Quaint Lass) - Had some traffic issues last out in her return to "real" dirt racing. Race was her first for trainer Scott Lake after a recent transfer of the Robert Bean-owned filly. Draws the shortest way home. 3rd pick: #10 (Rubbernecker) - She's successfully moved up in value after racing at the bottom for five races. Filly's finished second and third in her last pair at this $10K price with late rallies. Needs a fast/contested pace for a shot at the win. 4th pick: #8 (One More Lillian) - Comes out of the same last race as the top pick, so she'll also be dropping in price. Raced evenly that day in her first off a Guadalupe Preciado claim, but was beaten six lengths by the choice. Needs to step it up a bit. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
