Today's newsletter has a total of five races, three from Belmont Park and a pair from Monmouth. Today's Best Bet is #6 Read The Post in Race #5 at Belmont Park. Saturday's Results: Belmont Park Race #2 Top pick #6 (Ballythunder) $3.00. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #6 (MY GOLDEN OPINION) - Exits a very strong return race here on May 6. Racing for the first time in eight weeks he stalked, bid, and just missed. Race was his best in some time and his first for trainer Bruce Brown. 2nd pick: #1 (Vincero) - Working very fast up at Saratoga, Uruguayan import has been freshened-up for the past seven weeks by trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. Drops in class and draws the rail for this, and he's a win threat on the top end. 3rd pick: #3 (Charging Hero) - Logical contender finished a strong second running for half this price on May 10, his best effort since early January. Barn (Tony Dutrow) moves him up in price, but a repeat of his latest puts him in this. BELMONT PARK Race #4 at 2:35 PM Eastern Top pick: #6 (TIZWAY) - Lightly-raced colt by "Tiznow" broke his maiden last June at Woodbine and wasn't seen again until April 26, on this surface. He was ready to roll off the layoff, sprinting clear early and drawing away to win by almost eight lengths. He continues to train well at Saratoga and he could have some real talent. 2nd pick: #5 (Plan) - Lightly raced and talented he'll be making his first start ever on the dirt. Stakes placed on the turf, son of "Storm Cat" is training superbly for his first main-track race and his trainer (Richard Dutrow Jr.) has his set for a big try. 3rd pick: #3 (Samhoon) - Ridgling (one testicle) by "A.P. Indy" has gotten his act together of late winning at Oaklawn on April 4 and on this surface May 9. Speed/stalker continues to train well and should be in this from start-to-finish. MONMOUTH PARK Race #5 at 2:50 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (RAVENOUS) - Filly showed excellent speed last out against maiden specials, her first race in six months. Winner of that contest came back to clear her first allowance level next out. Drops, goes second off the bench, and draws the rail. Can win this from on, or just off the lead. 2nd pick: #2 (Lucky Cee Cee) - Shortens up off a strong second-place finish where she chased a wire-to-wire winner from start-to-finish and never stopped trying. Training well locally since that effort, she looks set for a big try. 3rd pick: #3 (Countess Seagrape) - Filly finished second in in a stakes here last year before a failed try in a tough Grade 3 event to close out her two-year-old season. Runs today off a long layoff, but is training well and could impact this late if the pace is fast/contested. BELMONT PARK Race #5 at 3:05 PM Eastern Top pick: #6 (READ THE POST) - Returns quickly (nine days) after showing good early speed in her debut. Drops and gets blinkers added today by a "hot" barn (Carlos Martin). Trainer is one of the best second time out (35%). 2nd pick: #10 (Love Nest) - Makes her debut today for a trainer (Rick Violette) who's strong in that category (23%). Daughter of "Dixieland Band" spent the winter in Florida in preparation for this and has trained well since shipping north. Win factor. 3rd pick: #7 (Lover of Dreams) - Returns from a 10-week freshening after racing evenly in her debut, eventually winding up third. Nice drill here on May 16 indicates that she's ready to offer her best. 4th pick: #5 (Wonsome) - Cuts-back in distance and drops in price for the Dave Duggan barn. Filly may pass enough late to hit the exotics. MONMOUTH PARK Race #7 at 3:50 PM Eastern Top pick: #6 (WAY WITH WORDS) - Goes second off a six-month break and her return race was strong as she tried to make headway into slow fractions over a big "speed-biased" surface that day. That run should set her up for a big race this afternoon. 2nd pick: #2 (Talkin About Love) - Veteran loves this course and comes into her seasonal debut with a "bullet" (best of 56 half-mile breeze). She's fired "fresh" in the past and looks on edge for this given the big work she has. Win candidate. 3rd pick: #3 (Open Skies) - Has some talent but has been away since last October when she "stumbled" and was eased in a stakes in New York. Needs her best off the long vacation for a shot at the win.
