Sports - May 09, 2008In tomorrow's newsletter we'll have a rundown on the prospective field for next Saturday's Preakness Stakes and also have some comments on the fatal breakdown of the filly "Eight Belles" and the ensuing media frenzy that followed. Today we have another four races from Belmont Park. Today's Best Bet is: #7 Tony The Terio in Race #9 at Belmont Park. Thursday’s Results: Belmont Race #1 Top Pick Winner #3 (Chestoria) $3.40. Belmont Race #5 Top Pick winner #3 (Scorsica) $3.90. Belmont Race #7 Best Bet Winner #2 (Classic Love) $3.70. Today's Horse Racing Picks: (# 5) DEALER BEWARE - Gelding was very sharp at Calder in December in a pair of turf sprints. Trainer Chris Clement added blinkers for those two races and he finished a close third and second despite breaking late. Trainer is great with layoff runners and if race stays on the grass he'll be a strong factor. (# 1) Hostile Takeover - Sharp in his last pair on the Gulfstream turf, he shortens up in distance for trainer Rick Violette today. Has good speed and he gets the addition of blinkers for this attempt. (# 9) Who Can Bluff - Colt had no chance in last on Aqueduct's tight turf course when another runner forced him out in the center of the track entering the first turn. He did well to maintain his position after that. Clearly better on the infield, he ran well in a turf sprint at Gulfstream on March 12. (# 7) Exchanging Kisses - Claimed last out by Pat Reynolds (Big Brown's original trainer). Colt is working well for his return and new connections move him to the grass for the first time. BELMONT PARK Race #FOUR (2:30 PM Eastern) (# 9) FOREST OF DREAMS - Son of "Forestry" hasn't seen action since last August at Saratoga. Showed speed in a pair and closed in the other, usually the sign of a good runner. Working well for his comeback, trainer Jimmy Jerkens sends him to the grass for the first time. He's the choice on either turf or dirt. (# 5) Birthday Balloonz - Switches surfaces and is coming off a month break after running into a very fast three-year-old in "True Quality." Colt by "Yes It's True" has been working well and may improve on the surface switch. Contender on turf or dirt. (# 10) Bedford Arch - Finished a strong third in his only race to date, a grass sprint at Gulfstream Park on March 10. Stayed close to a fast pace, bid while wide around the turn and stayed on well until the end. Repeat will make him tough. (# 1) Just a Warning - Son of "Silver Deputy" has displayed good speed in all three of his grass attempts. He's been freshened up since late January by trainer Frank Alexander and his most recent work indicates that he'll return ready. BELMONT PARK Race #FIVE (3:00 PM Eastern) (# 4) HONOUR ABOVE SELF - Cooked in a speed duel last out going a flat mile in an allowance at Aqueduct. Colt ran well here last season when still a maiden. Drops back into a claimer and the "chief's" (Allen Jerken's) horse, fits this group well. (# 5) Civil Suit - Comes off a March 8 layoff for the Contessa barn. Good speed to use and has a flexible style. Working sharply for his return and is a major factor. (# 7) Bomber D Back - Freshened up since mid-March by trainer Bob Barbara. Ability to stalk is a big plus as most in here will be tiring late. Needs to stay within range early to have a shot. BELMONT PARK Race #NINE (5:15 PM Eastern) (# 7) TONY THE TERRIO - Solid speed shown in a series of races at the MSW level for trainer Dom Galluscio. Colt drops into a claimer for the first time and Coa's presence is noted. The horse to beat. (# 9) Ring Bernadette - Improved with the addition of blinkers last out for trainer Jimmy Jerkens. Race was his first since last November and any move forward makes him a win contender. (# 1) Yankee Chief - No speed to speak of but he's coming off a turf race that was his first effort in two months. Moves back to the main track and he has the ability to pass horses down the lane. (# 4) Maps Hope - Has a solid pair of seconds since switching to the barn of Dave Duggan. Races were both at today's level and and the latest was a one-turn mile like this contest.
