Horse Racing Methods Systems - March 20, 2010

Today our newsletter features the $750,000 Florida Derby (G1) from Gulfstream and also the Swale (G2) the Rampart stakes (G3) and the Bonnie Miss (G2) on the big under-card on the "highlight day" of their meet.

The Best Bet is #7 D"Funnybone" in Race #10 at Gulfstream Park.

Friday's Results: Aqueduct Race #2 Exacta (5-1) $22.40.

Today's Horse Racing Picks:

AQUEDUCT Race #4 (THE KING'S POINT HDCP.) at 2:25 PM Eastern

Top pick: #1 (ICABAD CRANE) - It's been a long time since he's been in the winner's circle (April of '08) but he's run strongly in his last pair and they came off a 6 1/2 month layoff. Draws the rail and has the best last race by far. The horse to beat.
2nd pick: #6 (Manteca) - The main speed he tired last out after setting/pressing a fast pace and checked-in third almost 11 lengths off of "Ichabad". His speed in this field makes him very dangerous.
3rd pick: #2 (Naughty New Yorker) - Millionaire hasn't won in two years, but he still brings a good game and has finished second in a pair of stakes on this surface this winter. Stretch threat.
4th pick: #5 (Mighty Morris) - Much-improved runner has taken two in a row and brings good speed/stalking ability. Tries much tougher today and will need to step it up a bit.

GULFSTREAM PARK Race #7 (THE BONNIE MISS (G2)) at 4:10 PM Eastern
Top pick: #5 (AMEN HALLEUJAH) - Smashing win last out in the "Davona Dale"(G2) on this surface in her first race ever on conventional dirt. In a top barn (Richard Dutrow) and anything near a repeat of her latest makes her very tough.
2nd pick: #6 (Christine Daae) - She's two for two on this surface including a win at this distance last out in a first-level allowance. Lightly raced, talented, and she has a great drill here on March 14th. Big threat.
3rd pick: #4 (Joanie's Catch) - Very consistent filly (16-2-8-4) and she's run well both sprinting and going around two-turns. Thrives on activity and has a blazing work at Calder on March 13. Contender.

GULFSTREAM PARK Race #8 (THE RAMPART (G3)) at 4:40 PM Eastern
Top pick: #1 (BAMBERA ) - Immensely talented Venezuelan import is 16 for 18 and has beaten colts many times during her career. She won the "Caribe"(G1) last out on Barbados and has been training nothing but "bullets" at Calder for her United States debut. Has the rail and is the horse to beat.
2nd pick: #8 (Unrivaled Belle) - Lightly raced and talented daughter of "Unbridled's Song" returns to real dirt after finishing a close-up fourth last out in the LaCanada(G2) on the Santa Anita "poly". Speed/stalker is a win candidate this afternoon.
3rd pick: #2 (Don't Forget Gil) - New York-bred won a stakes at Tampa Bay last out in her first start back from four month layoff. Late threat needs some solid pace to have a shot at the win.
4th pick: #6 (Miss Singhsix) - Barn (Marty Wolfson) has had a great meet (especially in stakes races). Lightly raced five-year-old is another without much speed and will need some pace for anything more than a minor award.

GULFSTREAM PARK Race #10 (THE SWALE (G2)) at 5:45 PM Eastern
Top pick: #7 (D'FUNNYBONE) - Talented runner is the only entrant with a win on this course and it came last out in the "Hutchenson"(G2) at this distance. Son of D'Wildcat" is two for two at this distance and has a sharp work on March 15 heading into this. The top selection.
2nd pick: #8 (Gary D) - Much improved son of "Successful Appeal" broke his maiden at Tampa on Jan. 9 and then won a stakes at Ocala in his first vs winners. In a good barn (Jose Pinchin) and colt has a big drill at Calder on March 13. Nice price play.
3rd pick: #6 (Dixie Band) - Gelding showed a lot of talent last year when racing on "poly-tracks" and is working rapidly on this surface for his first on conventional dirt and first on any kind since Oct. 10. Sharp barn (Wayne Catalano) looks like they have him ready.
4th pick: #1 (Hear Ye Hear Ye) - He showed good speed in his seasonal debut and was only three lengths off of the top choice. He won a stakes last fall at Calder at this distance and he should be a factor from start-to-finish.

GULFSTREAM PARK Race #11 (THE FLORIDA DERBY (G1)) at 6:20 PM Eastern
Top pick: #7 (RULE) - The field's most accomplished runner also has the best early speed, a dangerous combination when in the hands of a trainer like Todd Pletcher. He looked good winning his seasonal bow at Tampa and will be tough to beat this afternoon.
2nd pick: #11 (Radiohead) - European import ran a big race here winning an allowance in his first off a 3 1/2 month layoff. Privately purchased last fall by the IEAH Stables and turned over to Richard Dutrow that last win came in his first race for the new human connections. Post hurts a bit but a contender nontheless.
3rd pick: #6 (First Dude) - Hard-hitting speed/stalker has yet to run a bad race and appears to like a good fight. He just missed last out at this distance and he's improved in each and every start. Dominguez is aboard for the first time.
4th pick: #10 (Best Actor) - He looked great winning an allowance here in his seasonal debut then had a bit of a rough trip when checking-in third last out at this distance. Freshened-up for the past seven weeks he's been working-up a storm. Price play.
5th pick: #1 (Soaring Empire ) - In the hands of a trainer (Cam Gambolati) who won the "Derby" back in 1985 with "Spend a Buck," this lightly rcaed and talented colt by "Empire Maker" won his seasonal debut here on Feb. 25. Working fast since, and he draws the rail. Nice longshot.
