Horse Racing Entry - June 28, 2009Nice performances yesterday by "Rachel Alexandra" and "Zenyatta" in winning their races on opposite coasts at Belmont and Hollywood Park respectively. Since "Rachel's" connections have no intention of racing her on "poly," it would be up to "Zenyatta's" people to bring their filly east for a showdown. Today's menu has three races from Belmont Park and one contest from Monmouth. Today's Best Bet is #8 Frozen Prospect in Race #1 at Belmont Park. Saturday's Results: Belmont Park Race #2 Top Pick #4 (Burley's Shot) $5.00.  Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #8 (FROZEN PROSPECT) - Returns off a two-month layoff and has raced against colts in her last several. She likes turf sprinting and can win this contest from wire-to-wire. 2nd pick: #2 (For Free) - Won here in late April and has been freshened-up since. Race came in her first on this circuit after coming here from So. California. In a hot barn (Chris Clement) and she's a win threat from the hedge. 3rd pick: #3 (Hangingonaprayer) - Won his latest at this tag and distance and steps up to the next level today while remaining at the same price. Stalker needs some pace help and will then have to out-kick "For Free". Tough task, but not impossible. MONMOUTH PARK Race #2 at 1:20 PM Eastern Top pick: #5 (RICARDO A) - Veteran ships over from Philly Park where he's been racing like he did when he was younger. Speed/stalker was given a nice vacation in the spring by his trainer and he's been extra sharp since returning. Likes this surface and is the choice for the win. 2nd pick: #6 (Light Wrap) - Good barn (John Riggatieri) has him spotted nicely for a chance at the win. Recent second-place finish was better than it looks and a repeat of that effort gives him a shot at the top pick. 3rd pick: #3 (If Only Johnny) - Has a hint of speed, but I believe "Ricardo A" is quicker. Runner should secure the rail and save ground as he makes his first start off a recent claim. Can take his best shot around the far turn. BELMONT PARK Race #4 at 2:35 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (GRANTED TIGER) - Filly by "Tiger Ridge" just missed at this condition on April 18 at Gulfstream and has since run in three races, a stakes going long on the dirt, and a pair of turf allowances. Nicely spotted and she has a recency edge on many. 2nd pick: #7 (Slam the Cat) - Obvious contender and probable favorite. She's looking for her third in a row since coming back from a long layoff. Speed/stalker has won from both on the pace and from just off. Working swiftly for this attempt and she's a strong win threat. 3rd pick: #1 (Girl Can Rock) - Part of an entry with "Dulcet Tone". Filly won her debut back on March 29 at Gulfstream and has been freshened-up since. Working solidly for this, she gets the addition of lasix (a 23% winning move by the barn). Stretch threat. BELMONT PARK Race #6 at 3:40 PM Eastern Top pick: #10 (BARONSHILL) - Colt returns today after racing in a pair of tougher contests at Gulfstream. He had a poor post (10) in his debut and raced evenly while wide the whole race, then had some traffic woes in his well-bet second start. Drops into a claimer today and has a nice drill on June 17. The pick. 2nd pick: #4 (Cullinan) - Has some talent and his Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott will drop him into a claimer for the first time. Colt by "Johar" has an excellent work on June 20 that should set him up well for this attempt. 3rd pick: #1a (Actor's Groove) - Has some ability and his trainer (J.P.Terranova) will drop him into a a claimer and add blinkers for this. Another son of "Johar", he brings some fine tactical speed to the race. Colt needs a scratch to compete. 4th pick: #6 (Big Gavel) - State-bred drops into an "open" claimer after finishing eighth in a stakes on May 31. Nicely spotted, he could make some late noise and hit the exotics at a square price.
