Horse Racing Entry - June 27, 2008

A reminder that today's Post Time at Belmont Park with their twilight card is 3:00pm (EST).

We'll have some thoughts tomorrow on a few subjects (mostly drug related) that have been in the racing news the past week.

Today we feature four races from Belmont Park.

Today's Best Bet is #4 Lady Byar in Race #3 at Belmont Park.

Thursday's Results: Belmont Park Race #5 Exacta second pick with top pick (1-7) $40.60.Trifecta (1-7-2) $119.50.

Belmont Park Race #8 Trifecta (Box of the three selections) 3-8-4 $97.00.

Belmont Park Race #9 Trifecta Box of the selections (5-8-7) $653.00.
Superfecta Box of the four selections (5-8-7-2) $2,016.

Today's Horse Racing Picks:

BELMONT PARK Race #ONE (3:00 PM Eastern)

(# 4) RELATO DEL GATO - Very fast runner is fresh and fit off a mid-March layoff for the Steve Asmussen barn. He's won off of freshenings in the past. Veteran likes real dirt (25-7-6-2) and will be very tough to catch. Barn, as you would expect, is good with it's returnees.
(# 2) Yes Master - Big win on June 14, his first race in two months. Claimed by the Contessa barn, runner has a history of stringing big efforts together and has raced well at this tag in the past. Dangerous foe from the rail.
(# 1a) Strummer - Part of a Richard Dutrow-trained entry and he's been freshened up since a sub-par effort on May 1. Returns above the claimed price on Feb. 25 and trainer is deadly with this type of returnee.
(# 3) El Bandido Rojo - Gelding has not run well in his last pair, his first two on this course. Had major traffic issues in his last and Prado gives it another go. Others seem quicker, so he'll have to come from off the pace.

BELMONT PARK Race #THREE (4:00 PM Eastern)
(# 4) LADY BYAR - Veteran mare loves this distance (15-9-1-4) and she has a good record on this surface (5-2-0-2). There is enough speed signed on to help out her rallying tactics and she's the choice to win this.
(# 5) Boss Tiffany - Speedy filly can also rate if needed, and she draws the outside post in this small field which is to her advantage. Lost to the top pick two back by just over three lengths. She needs to reverse that decision to contend.
(#'s 1 and 1a) Too Tired Tonite and Tzipi - Pair of runners from the Enrique Arroyo barn and only one will go. "Tired" was claimed last out from a solid second place finish running for $16,000 and "Tzipi" is in good shape and brings some speed to the contest.

BELMONT PARK Race #FOUR (4:30 PM Eastern)
(# 1a) APOCALYPTICAL - Well-bet last out in her first race in six months. Filly was up and on the pace before tiring in the last eighth. Goes second off the layoff, drops into a claimer and has worked sharply since. Prado sticks and she should run her best today.
(# 5) Nuclear Meltdown - Raced wide in her latest from an outside post (12). Finished second two back at this tag and distance and is a major player in this weak group.
(# 9) La Gioia Ditutti - Late rallyer had traffic problems in her retutn from a six-month layoff on June 13. Races mid-pack and drops a peg for this. Contender in a soft field.
(# 7) Dynamic Kip - Possible exotics player if she moves forward off his last. Had traffic issues on the turn and ran evenly thereafter in her first race in two months. Filly finished second in a grass race at Aqueduct on April 17.

BELMONT PARK Race #NINE (7:00 PM Eastern)
(# 3) LAST BOAT HOME - Chased and tired from an outside post in her seasonal and three-year-old debut. Pace was fast and she held well late. Stays at the same price and distance and Coa stays put.
(# 1) Talented Treasure - Mare is now 5 1/2 years old and still looking for her first win. In her defense she did not start until she was four and has run competitive races in all five of her starts.
(# 10) Weekwee - Filly moves from turf to dirt and drops slightly in price for trainer Pat Kelly. She's run some good races on the dirt and they were all at a higher tag. She fits well here.
(# 5) Afleet Aya - Firster from the barn of Rich Schosberg has several quick works, attracts Prado, and debuts with lasix. Need not be much to impact these.
