Horse Racing Handicapper - June 21, 2008For a look at the future plans of both "Curlin" and "Big Brown", see the Dog Pound below. Today we have selected five races from Belmont Park for analysis. Today's Best Bet is # 4 Philomatt in Race # 4 at Belmont Park. Friday's Results: Belmont Race # 2 Exacta second pick with top pick (3-1) $14.00.Trifecta (3-1-7) $32.60. Belmont Race #9 Top Pick Winner # 5 (Ode to Revolution) $6.60. Today's Horse Racing Picks: (# 3) GOLDEN WEEKEND - Excellent return off an eight-month layoff on Belmont Stakes day. Stayed within range from a tough outside post, bid turning for home and stayed on well to finish third. Blinkers go on and it could be graduation day. (# 1) Sammarco - The main speed and he resides on the rail. Held well in his return from a 15-month layoff after setting all the pace and being challenged in mid-stretch. Gelding was out-finished late by a firster who had a perfect trip. (# 7) Grapple - Moves from the turf back to the dirt where he was "bounced" around most of the race on May 24. He's worked sharply since and should run much better. (# 5) Lincoln Road - Firster from "Big Brown's" people has been working sharply at Monmouth in preparation for his debut run. Picks a tough spot for his initial race. BELMONT PARK Race #THREE (2:00 PM Eastern) (# 3) STORMY CATCH - Daughter of "Stormy Atlantic" has finished second in four of her last five and had traffic issues in the other. Close-up stalker can take this with a clean journey. (# 8) Better Than Swiss - Improved dramatically when switched to the turf for her second start. Raced well despite rivals to her outside the whole race and held well to finish third. Move farther out in the gate should help her chances. (# 9) Mizzenkey - Daughter of "Mizzen Mast" has faced "open" maidens since last August at Saratoga, and has run competitively in most. Veteran will need her best for a shot at the win, though a minor award seems more than likely. (# 1) Who is Lady - Set all the pace in one of these on June 1. Held gamely down the stretch when challenged and finished a strong second. She's had three weeks to recover and has a sharp drill on June 16. BELMONT PARK Race #FOUR (2:30 PM Eastern) (# 4) PHILOMATT - Speedy runner has been shopping for a spot for the past several weeks. Entered at Delaware twice, his connections scratched him both times and have picked this contest for his first run off a seven-week freshening. Brings solid front-running ability and can cause a mild upset here. (# 3) Sayitain'tso Joe - Won his only start in rather easy fashion on May 22. Picks a logical spot for his first try against winners, but will surely be over-bet. (# 2) Saumon Fame - Mott runner broke his maiden last out when dropped into a claimer for the first time. Son of "Holy Bull" had raced well in MSW events and has displayed "blazing" speed on more than one occasion. Contender at a short price. BELMONT PARK Race #SIX (3:30 PM Eastern) (# 9) STRUMMER - Freshened up since May 1 by trainer Richard Dutrow, gelding had it going pretty good this past winter/spring. Working well at Monmouth and trainer is deadly off these breaks. Runner draws outside of the main contenders going seven furlongs, a distinct advantage. (# 5) Zip to the City - Fast, game gelding won his last in his first start off an Enrique Arroyo claim. Race was one of his best ever and he's been lightly campaigned, so more improvement is possible. Runner has a good record on this course (3-2-1-0). (# 7) Lights of Broadway - Claimed by the Winning Move/Gary Contessa combination from the Englander/Levine juggernaut in mid-April. Freshened up since, he runs back for the purchase price. New trainer is 22% with his "fresh" stock. (# 6) Call Me Larry - Fragile runner will need a repeat of his last to have any chance at the win. Runner gives away a ton of experience to most and may have to settle for a minor slice if any at all. BELMONT PARK Race #TEN (5:30 PM Eastern) (# 8) BONTEMPI - Need only repeat his last to make it two in a row. Nice combination of speed/stalking ability and he may have quite a future ahead of him. Needs a clean trip and he's a winner. (# 1) Imperial River - Combination of a switch to the turf and the addition of blinkers did the trick last out in his maiden win. Draws a tough post for his style (no speed) and will need to repeat his last to have a shot at the win. (# 6) Fairway Drive - Lost to a pretty good pair of turf runners last out, but still finished a fine third. Needs to repeat it to have a chance. (# 11) Dubliner - Dave Donk runner has proven to be a solid turf performer (11-1-5-2) and has a very good mark on this infield (8-1-5-1). Makes his first start since last November, but trainer has brought most of his runners back ready to run. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
