Horse Racing Betting Pick - June 20, 2008A reminder that today's post time at Belmont is 3:00 pm (EST), and that starting time will be in effect on Fridays until the start of the Saratoga meet with a notable exception of July 4 when racing will begin at 1:00 pm. Tomorrow we'll have some thoughts on both "Curlin" and "Big Brown" with some comments on their future plans. Today's Best Bet is # 5 Ode To Revolution in Race # 9 at Belmont Park. Thursday's Results: Belmont Race # 6 Top Pick Winner # 5 (City Roar) $5.90. Belmont Race #8 Top Pick Winner # 9 (Distorted Reality) $7.40. Today's Horse Racing Picks: (#'s 1 and 1A) THE CUBAN HAWK and DYNAMIC DYNO - Only one half of this Richard Dutrow entry will compete as the same rider was listed at the time entries were taken. "Cuban" is working in fast fashion for his first start since a claim last August at Saratoga. Races well below the purchase price if he goes. "Dino" will be dropping in price and shortening up in distance. (# 8) R Fast Favorite - The main speed tired late in his return from a 2 1/2 month layoff. Race was against slightly better and came in the mud on this surface. Very dangerous speed, especially if "Dino" scratches. (# 5) Farno - Ships from Finger Lakes, but he has run well on this circuit before. Goes second off a layoff and that produced a win the last time that scenario took place. Fits at this tag and is a factor from close range. (# 4) Americanus - Tried for the top last out at this tag and tired down the lane. Runner was going second off a layoff and fits here if he brings his "A" game. Appears better stalking than on the top end. BELMONT PARK Race #TWO (3:30 PM Eastern) (# 1) NORTHERN RODES - Scratched the other day out of a turf contest, he recently came back from a two-month layoff for the Contessa barn with a pair of good efforts. Pressed the pace from a wide post against better, then tired late at this tag when she raced on the lead from the inside. This field is a weak one for the level. Major factor for the win. (# 3) Demaliat - Scratched a couple of weeks ago in a race that her first-time stablemate won. Probably best in her last as his ride was a bit weak. She's trained fine since and a major upgrade to Coa is made. Big win contender. (# 7) Isn't That Special - Firster from the So. Florida barn of Mike McDonald. Works before shipping north were fast and runner debuts with lasix. Could easily have a say in the win. (# 5) Triple Brook - Not a win contender, but has shown enough closing ability that she could sneak into the exotics if one of the top three is sub par. BELMONT PARK Race #SIX (5:30 PM Eastern) (# 3) BOOWOOGEEMALIA - Looked good in breaking her maiden last out for the Richard Dutrow barn. Race was her first outside of California, first on real dirt and first against fellow New York breds. Takes the next logical step and is a win contender. (# 6) Chanced - The main Challenger has become a solid competitor since she broke her maiden four back going long on Aqueduct's inner surface. Has developed a good stalking gear and this tricky 7.5 furlong distance should not pose a problem (# 7) Twistaway - Moves back to the main-track after a failed turf experiment. Solid dirt runner's lone win came on this surface. She's run well many times at this condition and should do so again today. (# 1) Megadeed - Makes her third start of the year and lightly-raced filly should be nearing her best for the Clement barn. Can save ground and make a run from the inside draw. BELMONT PARK Race #NINE (7:00 PM Eastern) (# 5) ODE TO REVOLUTION - Scratched the other day from a similar spot when the race was switched to the main-track. Fast runner showed good speed in his second off the bench and race was against tougher than these. Drops into a claimer for the first time and shortens up a furlong. Wire-to-wire threat. (# 2) Wonderous Day - Drops into a claimer for the first time after showing speed sprinting against MSW foes last out. Colt goes third off a layoff and draws the hedge. Major factor. (# 4) The City - Moves back to the turf where he tired going longer two starts back. Continually gets bet so there must be something there. Recent works at Aqueduct are very fast. (# 1a) Look Now - Sharp try last out saw him beaten only a "neck" at this tag and distance. Draws a good post and has developed a stalking gear. Threat for the money slots. (# 10) Subversive Action - Not a win candidate, but he can run all day and with many backing up "down the stretch" here he could land a spot in the tri and/or the super at a very square price.
