Horse Handicapping - June 18, 2008

We had another nice day at Delaware Park yesterday, and our picks have been on a nice roll of late. For a full listing of Tuesday's results see below.

Belmont is open for business today and we'll go there for three races and one contest from Delaware that we like.

Today's Best Bet is #1 Lighthouse Point in Race # 3 at Delaware Park.

Tuesday's Results: Delaware Race #1 Top Pick Winner #1 (Price of Freedom) $9.80.
Exacta (1-4) $30.00.
Trifecta (1-4-6) $120.20.
Superfecta (1-4-6-2) $170.80.

Delaware Race #2 Top Pick Winner #1 (Sasha's Girl) $4.20.
Exacta (1-4) $14.60.

Delaware Race #5 Trifecta Box of the three selections (6-4-1) $123.00.

Delaware Race #7 Top Pick Winner #4 (Great Deduction) $4.20.
Exacta (4-12) $20.20.
Trifecta (4-12-6) $38.60.

Today's Horse Racing Picks:

DELAWARE PARK Race #THREE (1:35 PM Eastern)

(# 1) LIGHTHOUSE POINT - Strong finisher has run well in his last pair against much tougher on this course and distance. Drops to his lowest tag ever and he also has the rail advantage. He'll be hard to deny with a clean trip.
(# 9) Know Your Limit - Blinkers go on and he takes the same drop as the top selection. Has some positional speed and he's never raced below $12,500 before. Major player with Pino signed on.
(# 4) Fighting Senor - Drops off a poor try in last at Pimlico. Gelding had put together a trio of good starts and attracts Dominguez for his Delaware debut.
(# 3) June's Approval - Had some problems at the start of his latest which was in a sprint. Recovered to race evenly after that incident. Goes long today and field is a bit light. Exotics possibilities.

BELMONT PARK Race #FOUR (2:30 PM Eastern)
(# 1) MATTHEW T C - Drops in price, makes his second start off a layoff, and gets the addition of blinkers. Gelded son of "City Zip" had worked well before his return start and looks well set-up by trainer Tim Hills today.
(# 7) Maps Hope - Shortens up after a pace-pressing try in the slop going a mile last out. Gelding goes third off a rest and Gomez sticks around for the re-ride. Main contender.
(# 2) Wanna Winna - Continues to "hang" in the crucial stages of his races. Contender, but his mid-pack style needs some extra kick late to get the job done.
(# 8) After Colin - Ran very well last out staying on gamely the whole race only to be beaten in the last two strides. Gelding had the advantage of the rail that day and will move well out in the gate for this.

BELMONT PARK Race #FIVE (3:00 PM Eastern)
(# 5) SANDY BAY - Had a very poor start in her latest and was double-digit lengths behind early before making a late move to finish fourth. Style fits and she's been pretty consistent for the past year. Can win this with a stalking trip.
(# 1) Zen Buddha - Probable main speed on the rail will be dropping in value for this. Claimed three back by Dave Jacobson, she'll be running below the purchase price and is dangerous against this field.
( # 4) Wild Holly - Had the rail going seven-furlongs in her latest and did not perform well. This mile trip is more to her liking and veteran mare is more than capable of impacting this group.
(# 7) Goldmart Gem - Drops and switches surfaces for Ralph D'alessandro. Mare by "Prime Timber" has a good record on real dirt (25-5-5-2) and draws a nice post for her stalking tactics.

BELMONT PARK Race #NINE (5:05 PM Eastern)
(# 6) MAGIC SHOP - Filly is gradually getting the "hang" of things for trainer Del Carroll. She's finished behind "luck" the last two times they've met but this runner has more room for improvement.
(# 5) Glorious America - Comes back for the Contessa barn off a seven-week freshening. Her only turf race was her best and a repeat of it could win this.
(# 10) Luck - Late-on-the-scene type just missed with a strong late rally at this tag and distance last out. Obvious contender with a repeat, but this is start number fifteen. One of these days.
(# 9) Can She Dance - Daughter of "Buddha" returns from a November layoff for trainer David Donk. Works are good and she'll run in a claimer for the first time. Donk is having a solid year, especially with his turf runners. Johnny V's presence is noted.
