Horse Racing Selections - June 06, 2008The field is set and the drama begins early tomorrow at Belmont with a wonderful thirteen race card headed by the 140th running of the Belmont Stakes. With "Big Brown" trying to become thoroughbred racing's 12th Triple Crown winner a crowd in excess of 120,000 is expected to be on hand in very hot, humid weather with temperatures expected to reach into the low nineties. First post is 12:00 pm (EST) with coverage beginning on ESPN at that time. ABC will pick up the broadcast from it's sister station at 5:00 pm (EST) with the Belmont Stakes itself scheduled to go off at 6:25 pm (EST) as the eleventh race of thirteen. We have added one race to make a total of six on our Saturday Belmont Racing Newsletter which is now available for just $25 here. We have had success in the first two legs of the Triple Crown as we tabbed “Big Brown” to win the Kentucky Derby - a $6.80 win on a $2 bet. We also had him pegged in the Preakness en route to a nice 1-2 exacta grabbing $36.60 also on a $2 bet. Today's menu will consist of four races, all from beautiful Belmont Park. Thursday's Results: Belmont Park Race #4 Exacta second pick with top pick (1-2) $56.50. Belmont Park Race #5 Best Bet Winner #5 (Under Serviced) $4.00. Today's Horse Racing Picks: (# 8) MRS. HOLDEN - Heavily backed in her first outing despite the outside draw (12) in a large field. Stayed close to a fast pace while racing wide, bid towards the top and flattened out late. Lasix is added by trainer Allen Jerkens, a 28% move by the Hall of Famer. (# 9) Main Street - Lasix is added to this daughter of "Street Cry" by trainer Bruce Levine after she ran second in her first pair. Holds no real edge on these and most certainly will be over bet. (# 2) Scott's Choice - Moves from a wide post to the rail off a debut that saw her race well out in the track the whole way. Barn (Kiaran McLaughlin) is deadly second time out (28%). (# 1) Season's Wise - Took some money and showed some speed in her first race in 2 1/2 months. Daughter of "Wiseman's Ferry" gets the addition of lasix and that should help out her speed. BELMONT PARK Race #THREE (2:05 PM Eastern) (# 5) GORETTY - Very fast early, she has won the last three times that she ran for a claiming tag and has been beaten soundly when racing out of her league. Nicely spotted today by trainer Bruce Brown. The lead and therefore the win is in her hands. (# 2) My Lucky Penny - Drops back into a claimer and switches surface for trainer Gary Contessa. Comes back quickly for this (11 days) and fits snuggly at this pricetag. (# 4) Singapore Court - Finished third going a mile at this tag last out and that may have been testing her limitations. Scored at this tag and distance two back at the "Big A" and she should pick up a piece of this. (# 6) Karakorum Roulette - This will be the lowest price she has raced at since breaking her maiden last December. Has a nice tracking gear and may sit a very comfortable trip about 3-4 lengths from the top. BELMONT PARK Race #FOUR (2:35 PM Eastern) (# 6) NO SHOPPING MARIA - Looks like a two-horse race on paper and the top pair are very close indeed. This filly has a recent win on this surface so that slight edge puts her on top. She's improved with the addition of lasix and is continuing to train well. (# 7) Greg's Lassy - Very impressive win last out off a nine-month layoff. Broke running from the rail, and ran away and hid, winning by almost 10. Race was her first for Kiaran McLaughlin and she's been training smart since. Almost put her on top. (# 5) Reyana's Jet - She's nearing 30 starts in the past two years, but has actually run better as of late, so she appears non the worse for the wear. If one of the top pair were to be sub-par she could hit the exacta. At least a tri player. (# 4) Salt City Miss - Could hit the tri as she has some talent and a very "snappy" drill leading up to this on May 25. Lightly raced three-year-old by "Salt Lake" is in a barn (Dave Donk) that's having a good year. BELMONT PARK Race #SIX (3:35 PM Eastern) (# 7) PLATILUMPUS - Logical selection and probable favorite was scratched out of a race at Delaware the other day when the races came "off the turf." Draws a nice post for her combination of speed/stalking ability. Trainer Barclay Tagg's main-rider, Eibar Coa takes the reins. (# 1) Kulka - Had traffic woes in her debut sprinting on the grass on May 11. Filly also had a tough initial post (2) in a very large field (12). Gets some more real estate to work with and should improve off her first race. (# 2) Mafietta - Beautifully-bred filly will be trying the grass for the first time. Well backed in her three previous races, she has run strongly in her last pair. Exotics candidate. (# 8) Stephen's Rhythm's - Filly had a poor start in her one and only appearance, sprinting on the Gulfstream main track. Came north, has a trainer switch, and is working well. Tries the turf for the first time. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
