Premium Picks

DELAWARE PARK Race #FOUR (2:05 PM Eastern)

(# 3) BUDDHAS'S PLEASURE - Very speedy filly performed well at Gulfstream Park before coming to Delaware Park. Finished third in her only start here when competing against slightly better horses on May 22nd. She owns superior speed figures over all the horses that have raced, and the first timers entered would have to be quick to outrun her early on. Dominguez sees fit to reride her, and she takes a slight drop in class to try and break her maiden.
(# 5)Sahm Psalm - Ran second in a cheaper maiden race at Gulfstream Park on March 21st. Shipped north, she had some problems at the start of a distance race, virtually being eliminated, then ran fourth when blinkers were added in last. Top pick defeated her handily in the most recent, but it was encouraging to see her stay on well late.
(# 1) Studious - Drops into a claimer for the first time after two tries against Maiden Specials at Laurel. By good Maryland sire Allen's Prospect, she should improve on the severe class drop.

BELMONT PARK Race #FIVE (3:00 PM Eastern)
(# 9) STRAIGHT ROMANCE - Barclay Tagg trained gelding has put together two back-to-back fine performances in last pair. All his turf races are above par, and he ran fine second two back from outside post at Gulfstream, then broke his maiden from a wide post at Aqueduct in very good looking effort. Tackles winners for the first time today, but does so from the advantageous outside post at a flat mile at Belmont. Working very well since the win.
(# 1A) Well Documented. - Got his diploma in last at Delaware via a Dq. in a very roughly run affair. The unlucky winner came back to break maiden next out, and third place finisher did so yesterday at Delaware. This horse is bred both top and bottom for grass success. Working well for first try against winners, and his initial time on the infield. Possesses dangerous speed.
(# 6) Dancing Tin Man - Donk barn has been heating up at this meeting, with the prevalence of turf races that are run here. This gelding by Woodman must have some physical problems, as this is only start number 4 at age 4+ . Won first start ever, so you know he can fire off the bench. Another who's working fine, this one up at Saratoga.

BELMONT PARK Race #SIX (3:30 PM Eastern)
(# 3) FREEDOM ISN'T FREE - Nice run off a three month vacation. Return at one mile against better should set Galluscio trained horse up well for this event. Cuts back to 6.5F a distance he is 1 for 1 at, and trainer also drops runner for second start off the bench. Although he hasn't run well in a number of starts, he's faced much tougher along the way, and his speed figures are still strong compared with most of his rivals.
(# 1) The Yips - Drops here off a dull third at Delaware in a small field, when he didn't break too sharply. The winner has won back since giving him four in a row, so maybe the horse was just better than him. Returns to Contessa's home base for this try. Delaware race was his first ever outside of Florida. Consistent sort, fits well at the level and distance. Look for an improved run.
(# 4) Pulpiteer - Has tailed off noticeably in his last pair, so trainer Balsamo takes a logical drop in class with him.Runs today for $10,000 less than the claimed price four back. Drop should help him be more competitive, and he probably will be near the front.

BELMONT PARK Race #SEVEN (4:00 PM Eastern)
(# 2) NOW MORE THAN EVER - Only her third start of the season and second off a two month layoff. It's encouraging to see Kimmel run filly in basically back-to-back races for the first time since last fall. The field in the last allowance race, was stakes quality, and she could never extricate herself from a tough trip in traffic. Drops into a claimer today, and she should run well.
(# 8) Fort Carillon - Hit a new figure top in last in first start for Gary Contessa. Trainer claimed runner two back from Donk for 35K. She's by Runaway Groom, so the turf success is no surprise. Draws very well for the flat mile, and she'll be plenty tough.
(# 7) Inter Galactic - Veteran closer, was taken last out by Dove Houghton, a name that will become more familiar in the next few weeks. He's affiliated with Tony Dutrow, and has a high winning % over the past several years. Mare would like it fast and furious up front to help her closing tactics out.

BELMONT PARK Race #NINE (5:05 PM Eastern)
(# 9) TEE WITH THE TIGER - All races are good, all on the turf, the two best at this distance and track. Makes third start of the season, worked well for this race, no reason for him not to run well.
(# 8) Tobruk - Violette runner ran well on the grass last season at two. Tailed off late in the year, and was sent to the sidelines. Return run on dirt did not go well, as he was pulled up after breaking well. Has worked twice since, and comes back quickly, this time on the turf. Had worked very well prior to the return race.
(# 2) Lhotse Quality - Moves to the infield for the first time. Has shown speed in most of his starts on the dirt, and his sire gets more than adequate turf runners. He is a four year old so his figures probably will improve much.
(# 1) Here Comes Charlie - Return to grass off a two month freshening produced his best race ever. Has the hedge and may have enough to grab a share.
