Horse Racing Tip Sheets - June 04, 2009A field of 10 was entered for the running of Saturday's Belmont Stakes, headed by Kentucky Derby winner and Preakness runner-up "Mine That Bird" who drew post position No. 7 for the 1 1/2 mile Test of Champions. Our racing newsletter for that day will feature the Belmont along with five other races on the under card (mostly Stakes). Look for it online by mid-day tomorrow. Today's racing menu has three races from Belmont Park and one contest from Mommouth Park. Today's Best Bet is #7 Fidelio in Race #8 at Belmont Park.  Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #8 (CONCORDE'S DANCE) - Daughter of "Concorde's Tune" returns this afternoon from an eight-month layoff. She showed good speed in all three races last year facing special weights and is working fast for her come-backer. Goes in a claimer for the first time and can win this fresh "off the bench." 2nd pick: #1 (Dutch Treat) - Debuting daughter of "Buddha" is in a good barn (Chad Brown) and is working sharply for her first race. Prepared in Florida where she had some fast drills, she's continued to work well since shipping north. Win cnadidate first time out. 3rd pick: #2 (First To Come Home) - She's improving and finished second last out in a maiden special contest that had a very small field (5). Drops into a claimer for the first time and is an obvious threat. 4th pick: #3 (Lofty) - Filly had some problems in her first two races, both at Gulfstream facing tougher. She showed some run in them and will drop down today off a two-month layoff. Exotic's factor at a square price. BELMONT PARK Race #3 at 2:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #6 (WYATT'S WOMAN) - She's finished close-up seconds in her last pair at this level going a mile. Stalker cuts back a furlong and draws outside the speed, which could be contentious if all go. Can win this with a late move. 2nd pick: #5 (Hold That Prospect) - Very speedy runner goes first off a Gary Gullo claim and a subsequent two-month layoff. Working fast and she has races in her past that would win this if repeatable. 3rd pick: #3 (Zip Of Fools) - She's in career best form at present having won her last pair. Improvement came after a Sydney "Chip" Dutrow claim, a subsequent rest, and the addition of lasix. Speed/stalker is well spotted for another top try. MONMOUTH PARK Race #5 at 2:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #4 (HOPEFORTHEBEST) - Drops for this and his trainer (Ed Plesa) has him spotted for a win. He defeated tougher two back at Gulfstream and finished a close-up third last out on this surface also against better. The pick. 2nd pick: #1 (Southern Spirit) - The main danger pressed a very fast pace last out and held well to finish second to a heavy favorite, while 12 lengths clear of the third finisher. He's nearing his best for a good barn (Ben Perkins Jr.). 3rd pick: #3 (Opening Page) - Drops for his second back off a lengthy layoff. Had some traffic issues in his return run and tired after stalking the early pace. Should run well at a square price. BELMONT PARK Race #8 at 4:45 PM Eastern Top pick: #7 (FIDELIO) - Working very fast for "Hall of Famer" Bob Frankel, lightly raced son of Awesome Again" is two-for-two on this course and those wins came off a layoff last spring. Believe he's better than these and wins this with his best. 2nd pick: #3 (Keep Laughing) - Lightly raced and will be cutting back to the distance of his latest win (this past winter at Gulfstream). Stalker should receive a good trip and has a shot to win this late. 3rd pick: #5 (Drift King) - Likes the footing here (3-2-1-0) and is coming off a "gritty" win here earlier this season and that came off a two-month's rest. Working fast and he's a contender. 4th pick: #4 (Pictural) - IEAH/Dutrow runner comes off a six-week break, shortens-up in distance, and goes turf to dirt. Runner won two back at Gulfstream on the dirt and is a threat for the exacta, though the top trio are better win candidates.
