Sunday's Results: Belmont Park Race #3 T-fecta box of the three picks (3-1-6) $58.50. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #5 (POCKET PATCH) - Runner by "Partner's Hero" has run well in his last pair at Pimlico against tougher, including a fine second-place finish there on May 16. Drops into a claimer and looks very tough to beat here with a "clean" trip. 2nd pick: #9 (Three Piece) - Freshened-up for the past 5 1/2 months by his trainer (Tony Dutrow), gelding ran o.k. in a pair of turf races here last summer and is training nicely for this come-back attempt. Likely winner if the top pick fails. 3rd pick: #4 (Dixieland Cowboy) - He's run well in all three dirt starts after coming back from a seven-week break earlier this year. His trainer is winless on the year, but this colt by "Bowman"s Band" is a contender if he can transfer his form to the infield. 4th pick: #8 (Wedding Scramble) - Sophomore colt ships in from Maryland for the legendary King Leatherbury. He finished almost 12 lengths behind the top pick last out, but gets blinkers on in an attempt to "speed him up" a bit. Latest work was encouraging. Could hit the exotics at a square price. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #6 at 2:30 PM Eastern Top pick: #7 (IL TERRAZO) - Failed on the Arlington "Poly" last out so runner will undergo some changes today. Ships east, runs for a new barn (Ron Dandy), and moves back to the turf. Gelded son of "Giant's Causeway" ran strongly against tougher two back at Gulfstream on the grass and can win this if he repeats that effort. 2nd pick: #1 (Ten Six) - Has the hedge and some positional speed. Sophomore gelding finished second in his last pair in Atlantic City and has clearly become a better runner since moving to the turf. 3rd pick: #9 (Bluewater Cat) - Improving colt ships in from Penn National to try the turf. He finished a strong second on the dirt there May 15 and it was clearly his best to date. 4th pick: #4 (Seven Day Holiday) - Nicely-bred ("Harlan's Holiday") and expensive ($165,000), colt has failed badly in his last pair on the dirt, but ran well earlier this year on the Turfway "Poly". Switches to the infield and if he can repeat his Kentucky form, he could contend. DELAWARE PARK Race #5 at 3:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (BODYSHOTS) - Gelding ships down from New York for the Todd Pletcher barn. He has some speed/stalking ability, draws the rail and drops into a career soft spot. Very tough to beat with a clean break. 2nd pick: #9 (Deputy Wanted) - Drops, stretches-out in distance, and returns from a two-month break, all strong categories for his trainer (Mike Pino). Working well for this attempt, he's a win candidate. 3rd pick: #8 (Edge Appeal) - Takes a big drop this afternoon, gets a new trainer (Ron Moquette) and he'll add blinkers to this colt's equipment. Runner has "stumbled" badly in both his starts and has been well-beaten each time. 4th pick: #4 (Cranberry) - Improving at this time, he finished second at this level and distance last out when he broke running from the rail, set the pace, and held well for the place once he was passed. DELAWARE PARK Race #8 at 4:20 PM Eastern Top pick: #6 (BON MARIE) - Veteran was given the winter off by his connections and he returned from the six-month break as good as when he left. Gelding has finished close up in both his races in New York facing better and is well spotted here to pick up the win. 2nd pick: #7 (Watz His Name) - Just missed on this course at this level and distance on May 19. Race was his best ever on the turf and his barn (Mike Stidham) has him headed in the right direction. 3rd pick: #13 (Gold House) - Solid turf performer needs a scratch in the main-body to compete. Claimed out of his latest by Phil Schoenthal, he wheels him back quickly and stretches him out in distance. Contender if he runs. 4th pick: #8 (Varvaros) - He's won three of his last four sprinting on the dirt and he'll tray and transfer that form to the turf and he stretches out in distance this afternoon. ![]() Horse Racing Picks Resources: Check out the last five Horse Racing Picks Newsletters: Horse-Racing-Picks-May-31-2009 Horse-Racing-Picks-May-30-2009 Horse-Racing-Picks-May-29-2009 Horse-Racing-Picks-May-28-2009 Horse-Racing-Picks-May-27-2009 |
