Horse Racing Line - July 14, 2008With the major centers closed today we'll concentrate on Delaware Park for our action. A reminder that this Wednesday July 16, Del Mar opens for business and exactly one week later on July 23, Saratoga opens their six-week meeting. As they were last year, those two tracks will be the major focus of our Racing Newsletter for the next month and a half. Today's Best Bet is # 1 Love to Date in Race # 2 at Delaware Park. Sunday's Results: Belmont Park Race #7 Exacta (1-2) $19.20. Today's Horse Racing Picks: (# 4) THEYCALLMETATER - Goes for his third win in a row today and looks like the main speed of the contest. Tony Dutrow-trained runner has returned from a winter recess a much better race horse and he's the choice to make it three straight today. (# 6) Hard Moonshine - Late finisher is sent down from New York by trainer Gary Contessa for his first start since May 9. Drops into a claimer and Dominguez is named. He'll need to stay in contact and avoid being forced wide. (# 2) Briney Lad - Returned for trainer Larry Jones with a maiden win on June 28. Son of "Salt Lake" had been on the sidelines since last October and he has a lot of room for improvement. DELAWARE PARK Race #TWO (1:10 PM Eastern) (# 1) LOVE TO DATE - Sharp in her last pair after facing much tougher in the majority of her starts. Finished a fine second last out despite having a poor post (seven) and having to rally into a slow pace. Has the rail and can take this with a move just past the half. (# 5) Wild Indygo Brew - Finished second in her latest at Monmouth when she dropped down to a $5000 tag. Veteran mare fits here and she need not be too far back early against this field. She'll have to out-kick the rail-runner in order to win this. (# 2) Dance For a Buck - Speedy type went wire-to-wire in her latest on this course running for $5000. Capable against these, she could clear into the first turn and would have a shot if that's the case. Filly has finished in the money in 11 of 23 lifetime starts. DELAWARE PARK Race #FIVE (2:30 PM Eastern) (# 1) EVONNE - Closed strong in her latest on this course and at this price. Daughter of "Include" had a poor starting slot (10) and raced wide throughout. Has the rail today and she can save all the ground and win this late. (# 5) Smartini - Had an incident in her last when she was hard to load, then fell when the doors opened. Previous run puts her in this and she has some speed in a race without much on paper. (# 4) Silent Diva - Drops in value and goes from the dirt to the turf for trainer Lawrence Murray. She's raced well in spots in her main-track appearances and she could impact this if she takes to the grass. (# 3) Jumping Ghost - Ran her best race to date last out at Monmouth at this price tag. She was bumped at the start, stayed close and finished evenly. Daughter of "Jump Start" attracted Bravo that day so she was well meant. Exotics player at a square price. (# 10) Estrella Victoria - Well backed in start number two last out at Colonial Downs. Filly chased a solid pace, rallied turning for home, but was out finished in a small field (six). Poor post draw today and she may be over-bet, but a contender non-the-less. DELAWARE PARK Race #SEVEN (3:25 PM Eastern) (# 9) ROLLERS - Returns for the Barclay Tagg barn with some sharp works on view. Stakes-placed at two, this will be his first race since late October and his first try on the grass. If ready, he'll be tough. (# 11) Seeyouinthecity - Son of "Slew City Slew" raced well on the grass in three starts last year at two. Training in fine fashion for his return, he draws a tough post, but if ready, his speed makes him a solid fit. (# 2) Panel - Makes his first start for trainer Paul McClelland off a late March claim and subsequent layoff. He's run well in his turf sprints without winning and has some races in his past that make him a win contender. (# 7) X Rated Cat - Son of "Storm Cat" has run well in all three of his starts since returning from nine months on the sidelines. Brings some big speed and that's always a desired trait in these five-furlong sprints. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
