Free Horse Racing Picks - July 02, 2008It's back to Belmont today for four contests today. A reminder, that this Friday the Fourth of July, Belmont's regular post time of 1:00pm (EST) will be in effect. Best Bet is # 6 Madame Bling in Race # 4 at Belmont Park Today's Horse Racing Picks: (# 8) EL CESAR - Just missed in his last at this tag and distance. Race was his second on this circuit and second for trainer Gary Contessa. Draws a good post and is the horse to beat. (# 6) Consigliere Jeff - Much improved race in start number two for the strong Johnny V./Allen Iwinski combination (23%). Dropped into a claimer and was sent long and ran a good race. Any further improvement makes him a win contender. (# 7) Highland Township - Drops, goes turf to dirt, gets the addition of blinkers, and tries a distance again. Lots of things to like from an under-rated barn (Dave Duggan). (# 1) Osceola Prince - Makes his first start since coming here from So. California in early May. Has some tactical speed, is working well, and he drops to a career low in price. BELMONT PARK Race #THREE (2:00 PM Eastern) (# 4) RALLYING CRY - Colt kept only the best of company the past two years over-seas. Son of "War Chant" won his U.S. debut at Keeneland in mid-April and had trouble in his last on this surface. Training well and goes third off the bench. Clear path is all he needs. (# 1) Pete's Wonder - Fast runner draws the rail and is in career best form at present. Colt has really stepped it up since a claim by Tony Dutrow and his type of speed can never be dismissed. The main danger. (# 6) Southern Missle - Veteran sprinter has not run a sub-par race in two years. Wonderful overall record (37-10-10-7) and sprinting is his game. Should receive a good stalking trip here. Needs his very best for a shot at the win. BELMONT PARK Race #FOUR (2:30 PM Eastern) (# 6) MADAME BLING - Nice race in her first of 2008 and first since last November. Filly saved ground, responded when asked and finished well for the place. Daughter of "War Chant" is in a great turf barn (Jimmy Toner) and is on the verge of the maiden win. The horse to beat. (# 1) Christie Village - Showed speed in her only appearance, which was on the dirt on May 4th. Freshened up since by trainer Tom Albertrani, she moves to the turf, tries a distance, and gets the addition of blinkers. She should perform much better today. (# 8) Kapanga - Came flying home to finish third in her debut on May 25th. Broke from the rail, was allowed to settle and finished with a rush. Needs to build on that effort for a shot at the win. (# 7) Mafietta - Makes her first start since April 11th and moves to the infield for the first time. Daughter of "Giant's Causeway raced well in her last pair on dirt before the rest, and her breeding suggests the grass should be a natural. BELMONT PARK Race #FIVE (3:05 PM Eastern) (# 3) BLAZING BUDDHA - Appears to be sitting on the maiden win after a pair of strong efforts in his first pair. Had problems at the start of his debut yet still rallied late to finish third. On the pace next out, he fought to the lead in early stretch, but was out-finished by a pair of more experienced rivals. Graduates with a clean trip. (# 7) Crafty C J - Cuts-back to a sprint after setting the pace at a mile last out. Race was a positive development and he looks to nearing his peak for the Bruce Levine barn. (# 4) Tough Jake - Strong effort with blinkers added last out for the Tom Bush barn. Battled for the lead from a wide draw and fought it out every step to be beaten a length. Needs to pick it up a tad to defeat the choice. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
