Us Horse Racing Picks - July 01, 2008

We had a tough day at the track yesterday, posting only a single small winner. Today we'll keep the same scenario with four races, one each from Philadelphia Park and Colonial Downs and a pair from Delaware Park.

Today's Best Bet is # 4 Try to Fly in Race # 9 at Philadelphia Park.

Monday's Results: Delaware Park Race #1 Top Pick #1 (Vanquished) $2.60.
Exacta Top pick with second pick (1-6) $7.80.

Today's Horse Racing Picks:

DELAWARE PARK Race #FIVE (2:30 PM Eastern)

(# 4) SEQUINS OF EVENTS - Runner has responded to a recent claim by trainer Ben Feliciano with his two best efforts ever, both easy wins at Pimlico. Gelding tries starter-allowance competition today and will also run on this surface for the first time. Ramon Dominguez climbs aboard and he and the trainer combined for three wins last week.
(# 1) Deputized - Much like the top pick, he has put his two best races back-to-back off a Kirk Ziadie claim in April. Runner has a close-up tracking style and draws the rail. Dangerous rival.
(# 2) Successful Return - Gelding was a bit sub par in his last, but Scott Lake trainee had put together a string of good tries together at this level prior to that. Repeat of any of those makes him a serious threat.

DELAWARE PARK Race #SIX (3:00 PM Eastern)
(# 4) OUR PAL FOREVER - Filly has run well in her only two turf races and both have been in sprints. Just missed in her '07 finale at Laurel and showed good speed in her seasonal unveiling here on June 15, before finishing evenly. Comes back quickly for this (16 days) and any move forward could send her to the winner's circle.
(# 6) Locata - Makes her debut for trainer Graham Motion off a long series of impressive drills. Goes first out with lasix and Dominguez, making her a serious win contender.
(# 3) Golden Spirits - Filly has run well in her pair of turf starts, though both were over a distance of ground. Shortens up and makes her third start of the year. The third of the win contenders though she'll have to come from behind in this field.
(# 12) White Slippers - Daughter of "Silver Deputy" just missed two back in a very sharp try on the dirt. Raced poorly in her latest, so trainer Larry Jones sends her to the infield. The outside draw is difficult to overcome.

PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #NINE (3:50 PM Eastern)
(# 4) TRY TO FLY - Talented runner was a stakes winner in California in early 2007 and was put away for the season after a start in late August at Del Mar. He's returned with a pair of sharp second place finishes at this level and track. Stretches-out off that pair (which were both sprints) and is by far the horse to beat.
(# 7) Momentarily - Freshened up by trainer Steve Klesaris after a poor try at this track and distance in mid-April. He'd strung together a series of good efforts dating back to the spring of '07 so maybe he just needed a break. Trainer is strong with this type of returnee.
(# 6) Sinners Repent - Makes his first start out of the state of Florida and he is a solid, consistent performer. His last pair are his two best ever and they are his only tries going a distance. Food for thought.

COLONIAL DOWNS Race #THREE (6:00 PM Eastern)
(# 6) SIDE BUSTER - Trainer (Ferris Allen) is having a fine year (47-for-298) and is doing particularly good work at this meet (49-11-6-8). Runner drops in for a tag and and has plenty of speed to call upon. Looks like a wire-to-wire winner.
(# 5) Creole Beat - Lasted just long enough to just make it to the wire while tiring in his first start of the meet. Moves up in price today and will need his very best to defeat the top pick.
(# 2) Martin's Point - Has the ability to pass some down the lane and the front here could be fast/contested which would help his style out.
(# 1) Cicisbeo - Draws the rail is coming off a wire-to-wire win against lesser. He is capable of stalking and loves this course (8-5-3-0). Can save ground from the hedge and make a late run.
