Horse Racing Picks - January 27, 2008We're off a great day as our top pick (#4 Ty's Ridge) at Aqueduct race #1 won paying $3.30. We also had a top pick winner at Gulfstream Park race #7 (#6 Benny the Bull) who paid $4.00. In that race, the Exacta hit (6-10) paying $71.80 and the Trifecta also came through (6-10-2) for $356.60. Finally, at Gulfstream Park race #10, we hit an exacta with 1-7 paying $37.20. Today we have five races for analysis and selections, two from Gulfstream Park and three from Aqueduct. It was nice to see Santa Anita able to get in their portion of the Sunshine Millions card. They scraped about four inches off the top of the new Cushion Track surface that was installed last year. Track officials have already cancelled next weeks Monday and Thursday cards to give them four days(track is normally dark on Tuesdays and Wednesdays) to try and complete the needed repairs to get business back to normal. Best Bet is # 9 Bon Marie in Race # 2 at Gulfstream Park. Today's Horse Racing Picks: (# 5) UNBRIDLED TRUST - Has been facing some very tough competition including the winner of his last, Man of Danger who just missed winning the Paumonock Hdcp. yesterday. Has plenty of speed and can take these from on or just off the pace. (# 4) Serious Fever - Goes second off a layoff for trainer Tony Dutrow and that is a very potent angle (31%). Horse had a good return run and should offer his best today. (# 1) Half a Note - Working well for his return from a 2 month vacation for the Linda Rice barn. Stalker may get a good pace to rally into. GULFSTREAM PARK Race #TWO (1:40 PM Eastern) (# 9) BON MARIE - Veteran turf performer had a very good tightener in his last an "off the turf" event on Jan. 13th. He hadn't raced since Oct. 3rd so it should have given him some conditioning for this assignment. Solid runner has some speed to utilize and he has beaten better than these. (# 8) Templar's Cup - Nice win in last and it came on this surface. Catalano charge likes to win(7 for 32) and he's worked since his victory on the 3rd of Jan. (# 6) Transit of Venus - Ran a sharp 3rd to a good-looking wire-to-wire winner last out in his first start for trainer Helen Pitts. Solid turf runner should appreciate the 9F distance of this event. (# 2) Japengo - Raced on the grass in Ireland when he was 3yrs.old. Has been running on dirt and mostly in sprints and middle-distance events. He's working sharply at Palm Meadows and may do well at a price. GULFSTREAM PARK Race #FOUR (2:40 PM Eastern) (# 6) SCARBUM - Improved run is noted in his first start on the grass. Sire(Robyn Dancer) generally gets good turf runners and trainer Mike McDonald removes the blinkers today after getting some more speed into him. (# 5) Snuckoutatmidnite - Has a solid base of sprints underneath him for this surface switch and increase in distance. Trainer(Jose Pinchin) has better than average stats for the maneuvers. (# 1) Thunder Alley - Son of Thunder Gulch debuts for the Mott barn off a series of good works both here and at Payson Park. Draws the hedge and a rather weak field. (# 10) High End Prospect - $190,000 purchase last April has been a major bust. Trainer sends him to the grass and drops his to 25 from 50K. Possible that he'll run much better. AQUEDUCT Race #SIX (2:50 PM Eastern) (# 6) PUTTINONTHEBLING - Had a very poor start in last and that certainly hampered his chances. Previous race was an excellent try and this colt resides in thr red-hot Asmussen barn. (# 7) Pure Devil - Showed hints of ability late last season when he first came to the races. Had some speed to offer and this colt may come back running for the Richard Dutrow barn. (# 5) Elixir - Contess/Dominguez runner ran his best to date last out, first off a claim by the leading man. Repeat of that race makes him a win contender. (# 2) Bel Viaggio - Goes long today for the Bruce Levine barn and also gets the addition of blinkers. That could translate into a try for the lead into the first turn. AQUEDUCT Race #SEVEN (3:20 PM Eastern) (# 3) NEW YORK CITI - Filly from the Contessa barn has been freshened up a bit since her last race in mid-December. That was a sub-par effort but it was from a poor post(10) and was her first try against winners. Think she'll rebound today. (# 7) Breezing - Makes her second try in a claimer and this filly, who was once in the Clement barn, may have more to offer today in a 3rd off the bench situation. (# 5) Dinnerinthemeadow - Goes third off the bench for trainer Gary Gullo. Ran well in her return, then had a poor post(12) in her second back. Look for an improved run today. (# 2) Sweet Victory - Finished 4th two back at this tag after chasing the pace. Caught slop in next and didn't run very well. Could hit the exotic's bottom at a square price.
