Betting Guide Horse Racing - January 16, 2008

We have selected four races from Aqueduct today for analysis and wagering purposes.

Today's Best Bet is #2 Jet Setting in Race #5 at aqueduct.

Tuesday's Results: Tampa Bay Race #1 Top Pick Winner # 5 (Mauvais Coyote) paid $6.00. Exacta Top with second pick (5-6) paid $16.80.

Tampa  Bay Race #6 second pick with Top Pick (2-3) paid $15.00.

Tampa Bay Race #8 Best Bet Winner #2 (Irish Son) paid $4.80.

Today's Horse Racing Picks:

AQUEDUCT Race #FOUR (1:50 PM Eastern)

(# 7) VILLIFY - Top trainer Charlton Baker sends this filly long today after a pair of useful sprints. Owned by legendary Hall of Fame trainer John Nerud, she improved greatly in start two off an August layoff. Filly needs a clear trip to contend. Trainer has very good numbers for the stretch out (21%).
(# 8) So Smashley - Ran well in last, her first attempt at a distance of ground. Winner went wire-to-wire from the rail and slowed things down considerably. Should go better in this one.
(# 6) Reyana's Jet - Has a solid foundation of sprinting in her for this stretch-out race. Solid and in shape, she may run very well today.
(# 4) La Mure - Comes up from Maryland to try fellow New York breds for the second time in her career. Has some speed and ability. Dominguez is named by Mid-Atlantic legend, King Leatherbury.

AQUEDUCT Race #FIVE (2:20 PM Eastern)
(# 2) JET SETTING - Showed tremendous ability in her debut last summer at Saratoga in wiring the field. Away until Dec. 26, she drew an outside post and was off a bit slowly. Daughter of "Forestry" still ran on well to finish third. Moves inside for one of the hottest trainer-jockey combinations in the U.S., Asmussen/Elliott.
(# 1) Analyn - Filly draws the rail and gets the Jimmy Jerkens treatment of first-time Lasix that produces winners at a 35% rate. Shot at the exacta at a square price.
(# 7) I Promise - Could win this if ready. Hasn't raced since mid-August, but showed enough ability in almost wiring the field in the prestigious Schuylerville S. Working well on this surface for Mr. Gary Contessa.
(# 6) C.T. Phone Home - Broke her maiden in impressive fashion last out. She's improved in all four starts to date. However, she was defeated handily by the second pick on Oct. 4 when debuting.

AQUEDUCT Race #SEVEN (3:10 PM Eastern)
(# 1) GIRL SHOW - Not too many Retama Park shippers make their way to this circuit. Filly started her career in No. California and did some fine running there. She's fast and fresh and goes out for a barn (Greg DiPrima) that is doing some fine work.
(# 7) Bourne First - Claimed two back for $14K, trainer Dave Jacobson ran her once for $20,000 and now drops her below the purchase price. Filly is a capable stalker at this level.
(# 9) Wakeup With Makeup - Goes second off a layoff for Contessa barn, but does so without Dominguez. Filly was going good last summer and ran on a bit late in the comeback attempt.
(# 13) Suggestion Lisa - Fits and is more than capable against this group. Drops off a try against better in her New York debut. Mare needs a scratch in the main body to compete.
(# 12) Let Her Be - Daughter of "Rizzi" had some talent at one time and is still pretty quick when cranked up. She nees to overcome the very poor draw.

AQUEDUCT Race #EIGHT (3:40 PM Eastern)
(# 3) NO REPLY - Lightly raced son of "Deputy Commander" has always had talent, but has some physical problems that have limited his appearances. Fresh, fit, working well, and draws the rail. Choice for the win.
(# 2) Hurrah - Has become a "new" horse since the Julian Canet claim last July. Now he's in the Contessa barn after the purchase on Dec. 29. Hard to imagine him not running well off the claim.
(# 10) Temporary Saint - Goes fresh off the Maggi Moss/Bruce Levine claim last fall at Keeneland. He has a good record, but this race drew a tough field and his post is not the best.
(# 8) Blazing Pursuit - Away since early November he can fire when fresh. He's working well and fits in here about mid pack early. With the speed possibly coming back, he has a good shot at the board.
