Horse Racing Tipsters - January 08, 2008With the major centers closed, we'll concentrate on Tampa Bay and offer five races instead of the usual four on this weekday. We also have included some track notes about a developing situation at Snta Anita race track. Please see article below. Today's Best Bet is # 6 Last Shake in Race # 6 at Tampa Bay Downs. Monday's Results: Fair Grounds Race #3 Top Pick Winner #3 (Buckets 'n' Pans) paid $3.20. Fair Grounds Race #7 Best Bet Winner #9 (Cloudburst) paid $3.00. Gulfstream Park Race #9 Top Pick Winner #6 (Clerpark) paid $3.80. Today's Horse Racing Picks: (# 5) GAELIC GOLD - Even run on Dec. 28 - her first at this tag. Ran fairly well at Calder against tougher. Filly looks well setup for today's contest and she is the win selection. (# 10) Zaam Time - Drops in price and shortens up in distance for trainer Ron Behrens. Filly hadn't started since June so her latest effort was a good conditioner. (# 8) Scat Soohey - Ran against better in a pair last summer at Indiana Downs and Ellis Park. Ran here on Dec. 28 and after showing some speed she backed up readily in a race she may have needed badly. (# 1) Ogerinthecourt - Good effort in her race on Dec. 26, her first off a four-month layoff and first with Lasix. Race had a runaway winner and this mare held well late for third place. Five-year-old only has two starts on her resume. TAMPA BAY Race #THREE (1:20 PM Eastern) (# 4) IRISH RED - Probably needed his last as he backed up a bit after being involved in the early pace. Ran well at Great Lakes and Thistledown and has a shot here at a good price. (# 5) Stack Blues - One of a pair from trainer Barbara McBride and they will race uncoupled. Good reliable sort almost always runs well at this $5000 price tag. Mid-pack type will be in a winning position turning for home. This runner is actually tied with the top pick in my figures. (# 3) Gamble on Red - Poor race at seven furlongs in his winter debut here. Gelding is a good steady performer and had run against better for most of 2007. Lack of speed is a bit of a concern. (# 6) Dance to Life - Goes long today off of a pair of sprint tries for trainer Miguel Feliciano. Gelding missed most of 2007 for a reason. Trainer is very strong (20%) on the stretch-out move. TAMPA BAY Race #FOUR (1:50 PM Eastern) (# 1) AFFIRMED ACTION - Goes first out for a top trainer (Dale Bennett) and he is a fine 22% with new arrivals to his barn. Has some grass races that would win this and he is working well for the new conditioner. (# 10) Mr. Rachin - Turf races are good and he drops into a claimer again after trying MSW foes in latest at Calder. Has some speed and a good post to use it. (# 5) Primogeniture - Nice to see him run in an "off the turf" event as he may have needed a race, having been off almost two months. Late finisher is on a turf course that doesn't play all that well to his style. (# 7) Mr. Seabra - Good prep finishing second in a seven-furlong dirt race. Had no chance in only grass race when he was forced out on the first turn at Hawthorne. TAMPA BAY Race #SIX (2:40 PM Eastern) (# 6) LAST SHAKE - Looks like the winner to me! Has run against better right along at Calder and has shown good speed. Blinkers go on for trainer Joe McCallister and he should wire this group. (# 5) Chianote - Goes second off a layoff after showing some speed on Dec. 11. In the barn of Tom Proctor he could improve quite a bit today. Ran against tougher at Remington Park before shipping here. (# 7) Radiant Reign - Generally competitive when he goes below the $10K price tag. Even effort here in his last, he'll need some pace help to do his best. (# 4) Runnymede's Lad - Ran second in a five-furlong sprint on Dec. 18 and that should set him up well for returning to distance racing. Not a win candidate but he could impact the tri and or super. TAMPA BAY Race #SEVEN (3:10 PM Eastern) (# 2) ALL I CAN GET - Speed play will take these as far as he can at a very good price. Multiple stakes-winning Michigan-bred will be making his second start of the meet and only grass start number two. Take him for the upset. (# 3) Starlight Serenade - Cheaper than most entered, he runs hard every time and he he stands a good shot at beating many of the supposedly "classier" runners at a good price. (# 6) Shoal Water - Stakes performer had a sub-par season last year but ran against top competition in Canada the whole campaign. Has some positional speed. Needs to be sharp. (# 5) Load A Chronic - Sharp against better in most '07 tries. Mid-pack type ran in five stakes without winning but did run well. Has had six weeks since his last effort.
