Horse Racing Line - January 01, 2008

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OUR SUBSCRIBERS!

Today we have selections and analysis on four races from Aqueduct Race Track. The forecast is for rain on Long Island, so there should be an "off" track.

Today's Best Bet is # 8 Handsome Reward in Race # 2 at Aqueduct.

Monday's Results: Calder Race #6 Exacta 2nd with Best Bet (8-10) Paid $29.

Today's Horse Racing Picks:

AQUEDUCT Race #TWO (12:55 PM Eastern)

(# 8) HANDSOME REWARD - Trainer Richard Dutrow reached in and claimed this son of "Double Honor" from none other than Gary Contessa last out for $75K. They run him back for $50,000, so I'll assume they're in it to win it. He has the most speed on paper, so he should come winging out of the gate. Chances would get better if the track is off.
(# 2) Jimmy Jump Jump - Heavily backed in last in a stretch-out attempt, he had all sorts of problems at the start, so it may best be viewd as a conditioning race. Cuts back in distance and drops a notch for trainer Jim Ryerson.
(# 3) True Rebel - Drops back into a maiden claimer after trying MSW competition. Competitive against $75k opponents, he should run well on the drop to $50,000 foes.
(# 4) Put Him Back - Blinkers come off for trainer John Morrison and son of "Put it Back" should be ready to offer his best today. He's raced on turf and dirt against MSW's , and had a wide post sprinting in last.

AQUEDUCT Race #FOUR (1:45 PM Eastern)
(# 4) PSYCHOTIC SUMMER - Improvement noted in last as he showed better speed and hung on well late to finish second. He's had over a month since that race and the last pair of works are good.
(# 6) Duke of de Buqe - Pletcher trained gelding caught mud in his debut sprinting. He was bumped heavily at the start and still was in the first flight before tiring. Trainer is 24% on the distance increase and he has a very sharp work on Dec. 28. Use this runner equally with the top selection as they are very close in my figures.
(# 8) Post Exchange - Has run well enough in his races to have a shot in here. His latest, his first try at a distance was encouraging.
(# 3) Driven By Success - Poor start in his debut cost him many lengths. Rallied late to finish third in a good performance. Draws the rail for this stretch-out attempt and Dominguez is enlisted. Gelding had Coa aboard in his first race so he must have ability.

AQUEDUCT Race #FIVE (2:15 PM Eastern)
(# 6) Running Dog - Very impressive "on the engine" victory in last, his first run for trainer John Toscano after a claim on Nov. 1. Gelding has always had some talent and he may have himself straightened out to go on a bit of a run.
(# 1) Ferocious One - Claimed out of his most recent by Julian Canet and he was one of the best not too long ago at that move. Has run well in last pair, draws the rail and Dominguez takes the reins.
(# 7) Citifest - Troubled trip in latest against better foes. Shortens up for this and has had six weeks since the last race. His two lifetime wins are on this surface.
(# 3) Strummer - Stumbled at the start in return from a two-month layoff on Dec. 15. Gelding still ran well, so he should improve in second off the bench.

AQUEDUCT Race #NINE (3:10 PM Eastern)
(# 3) LOVE TWICE - Fits, and is coming off a mid-September layoff for trainer Ben Perkins Jr. He's working very sharply for the return and he is the choice for the win.
(# 2) Aegean Breeze - Excellent speed shown in both starts, one each for Juan Serey and Joe Parker. Draws inside and Dominguez is aboard.
(# 8) Skipping Class - Comes here by way of Woodbine after finishing third in his only outing to date. Has a fair work since shipping and new trainer Mike Miceli adds Lasix today.
(# 10 ) Luck - Freshened up since finishing second at a mile on the main track on Nov. 11. Has a bit of ability, but the lack of speed combined with a poor post may limit him to a minor award.
