Kentucky Derby Picks - February 08, 2010Congratulations to the Saints on upsetting the Colts in yesterday's Super Bowl. They should be partying at the Fair Grounds today, so we'll have a pair of races from there and also two from Philadelphia Park to round out the newsletter. Today's Best Bet is #7 Catonthego in Race #5 at Philadelphia Park. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #7 (CATONTHEGO) - He's been very sharp in his last three starts, the latest being a second-place finish beaten narrowly at this tag and distance. The "figure" earned that day were by far the best any of these has ever run. Wins this with a repeat of it. 2nd pick: #4 (Lake Texoma) - Has good speed in his corner and he's finished second in three of his four lifetime starts. He should be in this from start-to-finish. 3rd pick: #6 (Cowboy Capers) - Rallying type has run well in all but his debut. Last out he finished second at this level and distance. Previous race saw him finish an even fourth, almost seven lengths behind "Texoma". Stretch threat. 4th pick: #1 (Eboy) - New York-bred didn't show much in a pair of starts at Aqueduct but they came vs. tougher. Drops into a claimer and he draws the rail. Nice recent work could help land him a share. PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #9 at 3:50 PM Eastern Top pick: #4 (SEASIDE FORTUNE) - Daughter of "Forest Danger" has been improving stradily of late and she was a very easy maidenwinner last out racing for $40K in her first off an Eberd Estrada claim. Filly has worked sharply since and is the horse to catch and beat. 2nd pick: #2 (Insurance Money) - The fields lone two-time winner will be returning today off a two month freshening. She's won her last pair and is working very fast for this. Win candidate. 3rd pick: #7 (Indian Legend) - Impressive maiden win in her only start, she surprised the public at odds of almost 17-1. She's been off a month and is a contender from off the pace. 4th pick: #5 (Pretty at Dawn) - Another exiting her maiden win and she's shown steady improvement. Exotics player at a nice price. FAIR GROUNDS Race #5 at 4:05 PM Eastern Top pick: #9 (DOUBLE STUFF) - Lightly-raced daughter of "Double Honor" has shown good speed and has been competitive facing tougher in her first three starts. Drops into a claimer today and she'll be very tough to beat. 2nd pick: #4 (Sandy Top) - Mare raced close-up and finished evenly just eight days ago racing against tougher. Effort was her first in 17 months and she's a win candidate today. 3rd pick: #2 (Teri) - Improving as she's dropped down in price and filly finished a pace-chasing second last out running for $10K and she did it from a tough post. Contends again today. 4th pick: #7 (Red Ruby Delight) - Speed/stalker has finished second in three of her last four and she should be in this turning for home. Filly needs to finish a bit better. FAIR GROUNDS Race #10 at 6:35 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (Cherokee Caucus) - Daughter of "Cherokee Run" showed improved speed last out when in her second back off a 10-month layoff she was dropped into a claimer for the first time. Great barn (Mike Stidham) drops her down another level and that should get her picture taken. 2nd pick: #6 (Classic Designer) - Dangerous rival finished a rallying second last out in her first off a Gary Scherer claim. Drops a level and is a serious threat from just off the pace. 3rd pick: #2 (Go Hide and Watch) - Only a nose back of "Designer" last out in her best race since March of '09. In the Autry barn and she has a big work heading into this presumably with the blinkers on that she'll wear today. Win candidate. 4th pick: #4 (Win Back) - Not a win threat, but veteran maiden could round out the triple or super if one of the top trio is sub-par. ![]() Horse Racing Picks Resources: Check out the last five Horse Racing Picks Newsletters: Horse-Racing-Picks-February-07-2010 Horse-Racing-Picks-February-06-2010 Horse-Racing-Picks-February-05-2010 Horse-Racing-Picks-February-04-2010 Horse-Racing-Picks-February-03-2010 |
