Free Kentucky Derby Picks - February 07, 2010In honor of the New Orleans Saints we'll have a race from their home city from the Fair Grounds on today's newsletter along with two from Aqueduct and one from Gulfstream. We'd gladly put one up in honor of the Colts, but Hoosier Park is not open at this time. It was quite a performance yesterday by "Quality Road" in winning the "Donn" hdcp. at Gulfstream. It wasn't the final margin that was the most impressive thing about it, it was the ease with which he did everything without his rider asking for much. He was my personal favorite heading into last year's Triple Crown, but injuries kept him out of it. It was nice to see him fulfilling that promise. Today's Best Bet is #1 Vaughndidit in Race #7 at Aqueduct. Saturday's Results: Gulfstream Park Race #9 Top Pick # 3 (Court Vision) $3.80. Gulfstream Park Race #10 Top Pick #4 (Quality Road) $2.80. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #1 (SIREN SERENADE) - Beautifully-bred filly has finished second at this level in her last three starts all in New York. On the sidelines since October 8, she's been in steady training and draws the inside. Filly can win this from just off the lead. 2nd pick: #10 (Panorama Ridge) - Filly hasn't raced since last February at Santa Anita when she was beaten a "nose" under these conditions. In the barn of the late Bob Frankel at that time she's now with Chad Brown (26% with new arrivals). 3rd pick: #6 (Starzig) - Another beautifully-bred runner she's been very lightly raced, but ran a big race on Dec. 31 at Calder as she set a solid pace and finished second, beaten a 1/2 length. It's good to see her making back-to-back starts and she's in a great turf barn (Chris Clement). 4th pick: #2 (Surround) - Daughter of "Monarchos" just missed (a "nose") in her turf debut on Dec. 12 at Calder. Draws a good post and Coa takes the re-ride. Exotics factor. 5th pick: #4 (Rule One) - Longshot by "Street Cry" has some good efforts at Woodbine on they're "poly" and has a nice recent grass driil at Palm Meadows. Interesting to see John Velazquez take the ride. AQUEDUCT Race #6 at 2:50 PM Eastern Top pick: #7 (GAME TOKEN) - Gelding finished second here on Jan. 13 at this level and distance in only his second lifetime start. Moves off the rail and he has a maintenance drill since. The top pick. 2nd pick: #2 (I'm Hooked Up ) - Colt finished a wide pace-chasing fourth last out facing $25,000 opposition. Drops down to $15K for the first time and he's a win candidate. 3rd pick: #1 (Timber Cat) - Gelding by "Prime Timber" "stumbled" at the start of a mile race last out and raced very wide once away. Drops back to a sprint and draws the rail. Contender. 4th pick: #3 (Smooth Kahlua) - Blinkers will go on this gelding for his second back off a five-month layoff. Return run saw him finish a distant third at this level and he was beaten 10 lengths by the top selection. AQUEDUCT Race #7 at 3:20 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (VAUGHNDIDIT) - Lightly-raced filly had a poor start last out but rallied late to finish second at this level and distance. Race was her first in two months and she has a big drill since. Clean break from the rail can win this. 2nd pick: #2 (Way To Karakorum) - Competitive filly has always done her best racing on this course and last out she finished a pace-chasing second at this level and distance. Contender from start-to-finish. 3rd pick: #5 (City Broad) - Working fast for her first start since Nov. 27 of 2008. In a new barn (Bruce Levine) and Dominguez is aboard. Win candidate will be lower odds than she should be. 4th pick: #4 (Royal Valentine) - Has a nice rallying style in a race that may have a contentious pace. Re-claimed last out by Joe Aquilino she finished a game second to the top pick last November. FAIR GROUNDS Race #8 at 4:05 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (BETWEEN RAINDROPS) - Daughter of "A.P.Indy" raced evenly in her debut sprinting here on Dec. 21. Filly has been freshened-up since and has been training sharply for trainer Josie Carroll. Bred to go long, filly gets an opportunity to do that today and draws the rail. The top pick. 2nd pick: #7 (Little Egypt) - Daughter of "Dixie Union" finished an even third in her debut sprinting and will try a two-turn race this afternoon. Good barn (Tim Glyshaw) is solid on the stretch-out (19%). 3rd pick: #2 (Sheryl's Melody) - Speed/stalker finished a solid third last out at this level and distance and did so from a poor post (9 of 10). Daughter of "More Than Ready" has a better post this afternoon and she should be in this from start-to-finish. 4th pick: #9 (Church View) - Claimed late in the Woodbine meet by Steve Asmussen filly finished an even fourth here at this level and distance Jan. 9 in her first race on conventional dirt. Contender from "off the pace".
