Betting Horse Line Racing - February 05, 2010Exciting development yesterday as Oaklawn Park announced that if both "Rachel Alexandra" and "Zenyatta" compete in the newly renamed "Apple Blossom Invitational" on April 3, the purse for the race would be increased to a cool $5,000,000 with half the total going to the winner. If the match-up doesn't materialize the purse would revert to its original size of $500,000. Today's newsletter faetures a pair of races each from Aqueduct and Gulfstream Park. Today's Best Bet is #6 Cuvee's Caress in Race #1 at Gulfstream Park. Thursday's Results: Aqueduct Race #2 Exacta (1-5) $29.60. Aqueduct Race #3 Top Pick #6 (Shine Upon) $2.90. Oaklawn Park Race #2 Top Pick #7 (Brewer) $5.20. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #6 (CUVEE'S CARESS) - Looms a heavy favorite and the more than likely winner. Colt has finished second in his first pair vs. tougher. Drops, is in a top barn (Ken McPeek), and puts back-to-back starts together for the first time. The top pick. 2nd pick: #10 (Cerrador) - Hee's finished pace-chasing seconds in his last pair, both at this tag. Improving and he should be in this from start-to-finish. 3rd pick: #11 (Mr. Sammy G) - Mid-Atlantic shipper hasn't raced since Dec. 3, but has some ability and races today in a career soft spot. Nice recent drill and he could do well at a nice price. 4th pick: #4 (Waterford Bay) - One of a pair of debuting runners from the barn of Todd Pletcher and they'll race uncoupled. Son of "Cuvee" is working sharply and draws the stable's No. 1 jockey (John Velazquez). 5th pick: #7 (Prontissimo) - The second of the Pletcher pair has worked in tandem with his barn-mate and there was nothing between them. He'll be a higher price than his uncoupled partner. AQUEDUCT Race #4 at 1:50 PM Eastern Top pick: #7 (WELL BABE) - Filly was well-backed in her debut and had some serious traffic issues while in contention to win. She comes back quickly for this and drops a claiming level. Her trainer (Tony Dutrow) wins at a 26% clip second time out and at a 41% rate when riding Ramon Dominguez. 2nd pick: #2 (My Lucky Way) - Speedy sort sprinted clear last out and held well for the place once she was displaced. Win candidate on the front-end. 3rd pick: #6 (Bar Beach) - Daughter of "Desert Warrior" was wide after breaking from an inside post in her debut facing maiden specisls. Drops into a claimer and gets the addition of blinkers and lasix this afternoon. 4th pick: #1 (Fiona Storm) - Debuting filly has some nice drills and draws the rail. Threat if she breaks running. 5th pick: #11 (Becky's Gift) - Calder shipper chased before tiring in her debut in the slop on Dec. 18. Shipped north she drops into a claimer, gets the addition of lasix, and faces fellow state-breds today. She draws a tough post. GULFSTREAM PARK Race #4 at 2:40 PM Eastern Top pick: #4 (DIVA IN TRAINING) - Daughter of "Johannesburg" really relished a muddy track last out clearing the 2l condition on this surface going a mile racing for $10K. Moves up in price and tries nw 3l opposition for the first time. Anything approaching her latest wins this. 2nd pick: #9 (Code Legal) - Lightly-raced daughter of "Omega Code" also won on this surface for $10,000 last out. Race was her first in two months and she probably has more improvement in her. Contender at nice odds. 3rd pick: #2 (Loquacious Lil) - Latest was probably nothing more than a prep as she hadn't raced in 70 days. Drops and shortens-up a furlong and she's a stretch threat today. 4th pick: #8 (Skip Away Belle) - Recent arrival off the plane from Aqueduct has a pair of wins on this surface in her past and a nice work since coming south. Don't just dismiss. AQUEDUCT Race #8 at 3:50 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (SALT WATER REIGN) - Races third off a five-month layoff and she'l be cutting back in distance for this. Draws the rail and veteran mare has enough tactical speed to not "get lost early" here. Loves this surface (10-4-1-3) and she can win this at a square price. 2nd pick: #8 (Afleet Alexandra) - Very competitive sort won here vs. weaker last out, but she earned a top "figure" and race was her first off a two month break. Win candidate from off the pace. 3rd pick: #6 (Meese Rocks) - The main speed, she stumbled badly last out and race is best viewed as a "toss". That loss broke a three race winning streak and she's a win threat today with a clean getaway. 4th pick: #2 (Motor City Mama) - Races third off a layoff and she brings good speed/stalking ability to the contest. Likes the surface (9-3-2-1) and looks set for her best this afternoon.
