Preakness Stakes - February 04, 2010It's a longshot at best, but Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs Arkansas will try and get reigning "Horse of the Year" Rachel Alexandra together with the undefeated and Breeder's Cup Classic winner Zenyatta in the Apple Blossom Hdcp. on April 3, one week before the meet is scheduled to end. Zenyatta has a win on the surface two years ago in her only previous race on conventional dirt. Today's newsletter has a pair of races from both Aqueduct and Oaklawn Park. Today's Best Bet is #1 Racetrack Jack in Race #6 at Oaklawn Park. Wednesday's Results: Aqueduct Race #4 Exacta (3-8) $18.00. Aqueduct Race #5 Top Pick #3 (Fortunate Run) $3.50. Aqueduct Race #7 Top Pick #1 (Smart Enuf) $7.40.  Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #5 (SPICY STEVE) - Gelding had a lot of problems in his debut last July at Belmont and he's been on the sidelines until today. Working very sharply for his return, he drops into a claimer, and gets the addition of blinkers. The horse to beat. 2nd pick: #1 (Dixie Nite Out) - Contessa-trained colt rallied in the slop in his debut to finish second on Dec. 5, then raced evenly last out in a strong field for the level. Just like the top pick he drops into a claimer and gets blinkers on. 3rd pick: #4 (It's the Big Cat) - Drops and will need to do better than he has in his last pair. Son of "Kitten's Joy" finished second going a mile last fall but has regressed since. Needs to turn it around. 4th pick: #2 (Sourceofthenile) - Another who's returning from a lengthy layoff (five months) and was well-bet and had trouble that day. He races for a very good layoff barn (Mike Hushion 26%). AQUEDUCT Race #3 at 1:25 PM Eastern Top pick: #6 (SHINE UPON) - Filly was very impressive in her maiden win last October on the main track here. Racing in her debut, daughter of "Congaree" rated early had traffic issues turning for home and bid once clear to win going away. Working sharply since she's much the horse to beat. 2nd pick: #3 (Valuable Lady) - This filly also won her debut (at Saratoga) and then tired in a pair of stakes at Belmont on sloppy tracks. On the shelf since late October sahe's training well locally and is a threat on the front-end. 3rd pick: #2 (Azucaa Anne) - Cheaper type needed eight starts and $15K opposition to win last out. She tries hard each time and draws the rail. Exacta player at a square price. 4th pick: #5 (Lady Apple) - Wide while racing close-up last out she was facing "open" company in a starter-allowance off a 65-day layoff. One run type may do well at a very big price. OAKLAWN PARK Race #2 at 2:55 PM Eastern Top pick: #7 (BREWER) - Speed/stalker has a solid race over the track at this level and distance on Jan. 16. Son of "Successful Appeal" stalked, bid, and finished second while "lugging" in the last 1/th. The top choice he's one of a pair from trainer Staeve Asmussen and they'll race uncoupled. 2nd pick: #4 (Instant Message) - Stretch-out sprinter is from a very dangerous barn (Steve Margolis). Son of "Mr. Greeley" tired wile wide in the "Sugar Bowl" stakea at the Fair Grounds, then raced evelny in the slop at the same track last out. Nice drill since and he's a win threat today. 3rd pick: #5 (Buggs Pride) - The second of the Asmussen pair broke his msiden in nice style at Remington Park on Nov. 6, then had no chance in a stakes at the same track after drawing a poor post (12 of 12). Don't ignore at a square price. 4th pick: #3 (Ricky Tick) - He was less than a length behind the top pick last out and it came in his first vs. winners. Contender from wherever Quinonez wanst to place him. OAKLAWN PARK Race #6 at 4:40 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (RACETRACK JACK) - Gelding by "E Dubai" finished second sprinting in his debut last summer on the Canterbury dirt, then showed speed in a pir of turf starts before tiring in each. On the shelf since Sep. 10 he runs in a career soft spot, draws the rail, and is in a good barn (Mclean Robertson). The top pick. 2nd pick: #11 (Bruddah) - Makes his first local appearance after racing at Philly Park and will also geta a new trainer (Ron Moquette). Gelding has a "bullet" drill on the Jan. 28 and looks set for a big effort. 3rd pick: #9 (Nervy ) - He raced evenly here on the 17th to finish fifth of 10 but he still improved his overall "figure". Should run well at a square price. 4th pick: #5 (Maumelle) - Expensive ($140,000) disappointment from the Lukas barn improved last out and has a fast work since. Player at a nice price. 5th pick: #7 (Wide Open) - He finished a rallying 2nd in his debut on a "good" surface here on Jan.17th. Ignored at the windows he may be over-bet in this spot. Contender, but believe this is a tougher field.
