Horse Racing Tipsters - February 03, 2010The "Triple Crown Trail" has already claimed a victim as recent "Holy Bull" (G3) winner "Winslow Homer" has a slight fracture of the cannon bone and will be sidelined until July at best. We're going strictly with the "Big A" today with four races from Long Island. Today's Best Bet is #2 Caldron in Race #5 at Aqueduct. Tuesday's Results:Turf Paradise Race #1 Best Bet #2 (Big Sky Michael) $5.20. Turf Paradise Race #3 Exacta (5-8) $27.80. Philadelphia Park Race #10 Top pick #4 (Silencium) $3.20. ![]() Today's Horse Racing Picks: Top pick: #7 (MY CHOCLATE SHAKE) - Daughter of "Quiet American" cost $82,000 and showed good speed in her debut against tougher. Drops down for her second start and she can win this from on, or just off the pace. 2nd pick: #4 (Musicsetsmefree) - Speedy sort has the most experience and will drop back into a claimer thie afternoon. Contender. 3rd pick: #5 (Quitters Never Win) - Claimed out of her debut when she was well bet, filly lost all chance at the start that day when she was away slowly. New trainer (Ed Lotruglio) adds blinkers and she has a sharp work since. Contender. 4th pick: #2 (Centrina) - Freshened-up since Dec. 11 filly was well-backed in all three of her stsrts in '09 and is working steadily for her return. Good barn (Carlos Martin) takes her blinkers off for this. AQUEDUCT Race #4 at 1:50 PM Eastern Top pick: #8 (SPANCILL HILL) - Daughter of "Lite the Fuse" finished second in her debut last March then wasn't seen again until 11 days ago when dhe had good position but flattened out down the stretch. Claimed that day by Gary Contessa from Richard Dutrow he brings her back quickly and moves her up in class. Has a shot at upsetting the chalk. 2nd pick: #3 (Gatto Nero) - The main speed and the probable heavy favorite finished second last out at this level in her first back from almost a 10-month layoff. She'd be no surprise to me for those who like her on top. 3rd pick: #2 (Enniskillen) - Filly raced well in a pair of late season starts at Finger Lakes last year. Working sharply at Belmont as she races off a two month layoff and first for trainer Colum O'Brien. 4th pick: #5 (Silver City Dreams) - She finished fourth last out after middle-moving and was only two lengths behind "Nero" at the finish. Exotics factor in her third back off a 3 1/2 month layoff. AQUEDUCT Race #5 at 2:20 PM Eastern Top pick: #2 (CALDRON) - Gelding finised a pace-setting third at this tag sprinting on Jan. 8 in his first back off almost a two-month layoff. Race was the best of his career and trainer Steve Asmussen will stretch him out in distance for the first time today. Dominguez stays put and he and the 2009 Eclipse Award winning trainer are successful 37% of the time when they're teamed-up. 2nd pick: #3 (Fortunate Run) - He raced close-up anf finished evenly last out in a state-bred allowance in his first against winners. Drops into a claimer and faces "open" foes today. Win candidate. 3rd pick: #5 (Gimmeanotherwink) - Another stretch-out sprinter and he's finished third in his last pair saprinting in starter-allowances. Lightly raced and he still has room for improvement. 4th pick: #7 (Talk To Nick) - Colt finished a pace-setting fourth at Philly Park in the slop on Dec. 5 and trainer Cody Autry has freshened him up for the past two months. Working well on this surface and barn is good off of layoffs (24%). Contender. AQUEDUCT Race #7 at 3:20 PM Eastern Top pick: #1 (SMART ENUF) - Interesting jockey switches here as Dave Cohen and Ramon Dominguez switcht mounts they rode last time out. This gelding finished well behind "Diamond District" last out and Cohen jumps off that runner to this one. Has the rail (which was great over the wekend) and he has a good shot at reversing that decision. 2nd pick: #6 (Diamond District) - Easy win last out as he used his fine tactical speed to good advantage. Probable heavy favorite is certainly a win candidate but the rail runner has a solid shot at him. It would be no surprise if he won. 3rd pick: #2 (Rises the Phoenix) - Loves the surface (15-4-3-1) and he runs second off a long layoff (9 1/2 months). Capable if he steps it up to last winter's performance level. 4th pick: #5 (Next Day) - He likes to come from far out of it but was handled easily by the top pair on Jan. 13. Maybe for a minor award with a late rally.
