Handicapping Horse Racing - December 30, 2007Today, like yesterday, we have selected five races for analysis, three from Aqueduct and two from Turfway Park. Today's Best Bet is #3 Brave and Skillful in Race # 3 at Turfway Park. Saturday's Results: Aqueduct Race #5 Exacta (Box of 3 selections) (1-6) Paid $20.60. Turfway Park Race #4 Exacta (Box of 3 selections) (3-5) Paid $39. Aqueduct Race #9 Exacta (Box of top three) (9-5) Paid $83.50. Turfway Park Race #12 Top Pick Winner #9 (Talk Fast) Paid $5.20. Today's Horse Racing Picks: (# 8) GUIDANCE - Goes second out for Jimmy (007) Bond. Has hinted at ability but has been running evenly. Recent AM activity indicates she may be coming around. Can win this with a clear trip. (# 3) So Glitzy - Has had three sprints since returning from a February layoff. Formerly with Allen Jerkens, he is now with Bernie Callejas after Jerkens made his annual migration to Gulfstream. Filly has a good foundation under her for the distance increase. (# 7) Battingstar - Contessa runner tries a distance for the first time off of a pair of sprints. Expect her to try for the top today in third start. (# 6) Victory for M'lady - Started her career at Emerald Downs and curiously made her way to Turf Paradise in Arizona for one race before shipping here. Has good races on her resume but several placings were in very small fields. Fits if she can handle all the changes after shipping cross country. (# 2) Fourth Chapter - Ran her best race to date last out but it came on the grass. Draws the rail and appears to be improving. Good price is assured. AQUEDUCT Race #FOUR (1:50 PM Eastern) (# 3) STAID - Asmussen trained filly has run hard in all starts without picking up the maiden win. Has a tractable style and has been finishing better. Has an experience edge and is the choice for the win. (# 6) Quixotic Lassie - Closed late in her second start after an even run in her debut. Contessa/Dominguez duo look to strike another blow. Serious win contender. (# 1) Ophite - This filly has a good chance to make an impact in her second start off a Sept. layoff. Is working sharply and trainer David Donk names Lopez today. Look for her to show more speed. (# 2) Crane Bay - Rallied late in her Nov. 18 debut to finish a close fourth. Pace was fast that day and many came on down the lane. Needs to break a bit better in here. Trainer Tom Albertrani is a fine 24% with second-time runners TURFWAY PARK Race #THREE (2:00 PM Eastern) (# 3) BRAVE AND SKILLFUL - Colt made a lone start for Bill Mott at Saratoga before being sent to Shannon Ritter on the Kentucky circuit. Drops in half today and trainer adds blinkers for this stretch-out attempt. Won't find many softer spots. (# 7) Louisville Flyer - Another dropper that gets blinkers, this one trained by Murray Johnson. Raced evenly last out so the drop seems warranted. (# 1) August Break - One of a pair entered by Eric Reed and they will race as separate interests. This one has made one start and that for half this tag sprinting. (# 4) Giant Dreams - Takes a major drop in price from $50,000 down to $15K. Has run poorly in both tries and needs to get involved in the race early to have a chance. AQUEDUCT Race #NINE (4:10 PM Eastern) (# 1) FOOSE - Working very fast for the Contessa steamroller. Had a pair of smashing races last winter on this surface, and makes his return from a May layoff. Has the rail and presume he'll use his speed. (# 3) Sal the Pal - Last four races are all good and he is in shape and has been finishing well. Pace should be fast and that will help him out. (# 9) Any Which Way - Freshened up since late October by Gary Gullo. Dominguez's presence is interesting and runner has some good back races to his credit. (# 10) Gold Shamrock - Makes his third run off an April layoff and has been sharp in his return pair. Can stalk and finish fairly well and he should be in the clear while wide. TURFWAY PARK Race #EIGHT (4:20 PM Eastern) (# 7) THE CLEVEREST - Filly has been brought along gingerly and appears that she's reaching a good performance level. Won her last in game fashion to pick up her second win. Choice to make it two in a row. (# 8) Clear Conscience - Moves up to a $30,000 tag after running well for half that price. Closed late at this distance to get up for second. Contender at a square price. (# 2) Hour Queen - Has raced twice recently at this $30K tag and has been in the right place turning for home but has not found the needed finishing power. (# 6) Luknluv - Consistent filly runs close up but has been lacking the killer instinct. Needs to find more kick down the lane. Horse Racing Picks Resources:
