Horse Racing Pick - December 27, 2007

Nice score yesterday in the Turfway 5th with a box that nailed the tri and super. Race was playable that way because as post-time approached the odds were good on all four selections.

Today we have four races, three from the Big A. and one from the Fair Grounds.

Today's Best Bet is # 2 Tricky Slew in Race # 2 at the Fair Grounds.

Wednesday's Results: Aqueduct Race #4 Best Bet Winner # 1 (Wild Garden) Paid $3.50.

Turfway Park Race #5 Trifecta Box Top 4 (9-7-1) Paid $312. Superfecta (9-7-1-12) Paid $1000.40.

Today's Horse Racing Picks:

AQUEDUCT Race #FOUR (1:50 PM Eastern)

(# 8) ROCKPAPERSCISSORS - Lots of positives on view in last. Trainer switch, blinkers, drop in class all contributed to a very good try. Blinkers improved her speed along with the presence of Chuck Lopez. Meets a largely inexperienced group and can take thes wire-to-wire.
(# 7) Jamies Gem - Has shown enough that she must be considered a contender in this weak field. Has several tries that would land her a share of this.
(# 10) Jabeesh - Continues to improve little by little. Post is of no help, and she needs a scratch to compete. Contender for money finish if she goes.
(# 3) Sully's Smile - Possible for the tri if jockey is patient and doesn't go all out early. Ground saving journey is projected and that will help her out.

FAIR GROUNDS Race #TWO (2:00 PM Eastern)
(# 2) TRICKY SLEW - Takes a dramatic drop for trainer Cody Autry. Claimed for $25,000 three races back, he runs today for $5K. Looks to have this field "over a barrel" if he isn't going totally wrong. Takes this from very close range.
(# 5) Awesome Richard - Speedy runner did well in his first start against open-claiming foes. Top choice may let him go and try and run by him at the half. Tough competitor when allowed an uncontested lead.
(# 4) Ask the Lord - Veteran runner hasn't won in some time but he can still bring a good race by witness of his second-place finish two back. Capable from mid-pack.

AQUEDUCT Race #SEVEN (3:15 PM Eastern)
(# 2) S.S. BELLE - The way the track played yesterday, this speedy filly holds all the cards here. Claimed last out by Bruce Levine, he has given her some time off since the purchase. This is trainer's "time of the year" and he won one yesterday. He wins at an astounding 32% with his fresh buys.
(# 1) Come Fly Away - Has the rail and can stalk. That combination will make her the most likely to run down the top pick if she falters. Hushion barn is doing it's usual good work lately.
(# 6) My Fair El - Richard Dutrow-trained filly hasn't run since Nov. 17 when she rallied to finish second. Capable off this type of layoff she'll need to avoid a wide trip, as that proved disastrous yesterday for those who attempted it.
(# 7) Runaway Star - Contessa/Dominguez combination is hard to discount even if you don't care much for the entrant.

AQUEDUCT Race #EIGHT (3:40 PM Eastern)
(# 3) BUILDING NEW ERA - Goes in a claimer for the first time in his career. Contessa trained runner has kept some tough company all season and has done pretty well. Will be very close to the pace on the drop and can take these with a quick burst around the far turn. Dominguez was aboard for his last win.
(# 4) Lorccan - Has become a better horse since coming to the Hushion barn. Has enough speed to stay close and can finish pretty well.
(# 8) Go Fernando Go - Appears to be coming around to his best form of last winter. Has some tactical speed and may try and gun a bit early, as being too far back yesterday meant you would lose.
(# 5) Love Abroad - Appears to like going long on the dirt. Has hinted at ability in the past but hasn't really put it together. Last was impressive and the horse he ran past late would have a shot at the win here.
(# 7) Optimistic Steve - Has developed into a reliable late finisher. Had promise early in his career. Would like it fast/contested up top.
