Horse Racing System - December 23, 2007Solid day yesterday as we brought home money from four races for a total of $71.40. Today we have five races, a pair each from the Fair Grounds and Turfway Park and one from Hawthorne. Today's Best Bet is #5 No Surgeon in Race # 10 at the Fair Grounds. Saturday's Results: Fair Grounds Race #2 Exacta Box of the three picks (11-8) Paid $30.80. Fair Grounds Race #7 Top Pick Winner #2 (Blitzing) Paid $4.20. Exacta Top with 2nd Pick (2-3) Paid $12.80. Hawthorne Race #6 Best Bet Winner #3 (Rusty Bucket) Paid $2.80. Hawthorne Race # 7 = Top Pick Winner # 4 (Twinpost) Paid $4.20. Exacta Top with 2nd pick (4-5) Paid $16.60. Today's Horse Racing Picks: (# 9) YANKEES BLAST - Makes her second start off a June layoff for trainer Bill Ford. Mare just missed at this condition and distance last out getting beat by a neck. Drops a bit for this, and lightly raced miss can take this with a repeat of last. (# 8) Pappy's Girl - Lost to the top pick by four lengths last out, but that was only her second race off a freshening for new trainer Mike Maurer. She's kept better company than most entered. (# 2) Denna's Dream - Comes out of the same race as the top two. Showed some speed that day, she needs to hang on better to contend. Lightly raced and capable if she improves. (# 3) Ted's Dream - Had problems at the start in latest, but she ran on well to finish a good second. Race was at this tag, and she has been facing better stock since late last year. FAIR GROUNDS Race #THREE (2:25 PM Eastern) (# 4) EIGHT BELLES - Filly was very impressive when she broke her maiden late in the Delaware meet for trainer Larry Jones. Ran better than it looked in her New Orleans debut, as she was making a move when forced very wide around the far turn. Trainer has a barnful of good runners and this is one of them (# 5) Highest Class - Filly has progressed in each start to date, culminating with a fine maiden win at Churchill last out. Trainer Neil Howard always has some good youngsters at this meet, and this daughter of "Mineshaft" could continue to improve as the distances increase. (# 2) Indian Nation - Bret Calhoun moves this filly back to the main track after a pair of decent tries on the grass against winners. She won her debut race over a sloppy main track. Has a nice cozy post this afternoon. HAWTHORNE Race #FIVE (4:25 PM Eastern) (# 8) GREAT UNCLE SCOTT - Runner drops down after facing better and running evenly in most of his races since breaking his maiden. The reduction in value should enable this Christine Janks trainee to pick up win number two. (# 3) Lunar Affair - Last two runs have shown a lot of improvement for this gelded son of "Mr. Greeley." Has plenty of speed, and think he can clear these early. (# 2) Wagon Load - Runner has gotten it together with the addition of blinkers several starts ago. Broke his maiden in last, so this is his first try against multiple winners. (# 1) Apt to Shine - Stalker on the rail, was beaten by "Lunar Affair" two starts back in easy fashion. Has the ability to impact the race late if the speed doesn't hold well. TURFWAY PARK Race #NINE (4:50 PM Eastern) (# 4) SEVENDAYSMAKEAWEEK - Goes second off a layoff and only her third overall for trainer Vickie Foley. Caught slop in June debut, ran evenly in early November return. She's working sharply and faces a field with many with no racing experience. (# 3) That's so Funny - Good speed shown from a poor post in return from a two-month layoff for trainer Lynn Whiting. Has four works since that race, and should run well. (# 9) Golden Roses - Makes her debut for Jeff Thornbury off of some much better than average works at Keeneland. (# 1) Gooseontherocks - Filly has shown speed and tired in all races to date. Has the rail and shortens up in distance to 5.5 furlongs. May hang on much better and the rail was good yesterday. FAIR GROUNDS Race #TEN (5:45 PM Eastern) (# 5) NO SURGEON - Almost assured to go off the favorite on his record, and the fact that he hails from the Asmussen/Bridgmohan combination. They won six races here yesterday, including all four stakes. Drops today to face fellow Louisiana-breds at the bottom tag. Should stay in range and go by these on the far turn. (# 2) Disco Lights - Smashing win when he last ran. Has been given a freshening by trainer Andy Ney, and if he's ready to race at his top level, he would be a tough opponent. (# 9) Unknown Parts - Raced well at Evangeline Downs thru late summer/early fall. Has had almost four months of R & R from trainer Lori Hendrickson, and she's very good with her returnees.
